Height: 5’11”
Weight: 180 pounds
Hometown: Tampa, FL (Plant)
Class/Position: Sophomore/Wide Receiver
Whop Philyor was one of Indiana’s most impressive freshman in 2018. The talented player comes from IU’s newly minted sunshine pipeline—where a wealth of recruits have flocked from Florida to Bloomington. Philyor attended Plant High School in Tampa, Florida. He joined Indiana after a prolific high school career where he was teammates with head coach Tom Allen’s son, Thomas Allen. Philyor was a two-time All-County selection where he played both sides of the ball. As a defensive back Philyor logged two interceptions and 38 tackles, while as a receiver he totaled 91 catches for over 1,300 yards. Philyor was an intriguing addition to the 2017 recruiting class.
During his first season at IU, Whop Philyor made a serious impact. With a name like Whop, success in football seems appropriate. Philyor finished the season with 33 total catches (3rd on the team) for 335 yards and three touchdowns. Whop hauled in his first career touchdown at home against Michigan. Two weeks later, Philyor had the breakout game of his career. In a brutal loss against Maryland, Philyor was the shining positive for IU. He grabbed 13 receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown. Whop Philyor is poised for an explosive sophomore season. He will join Nick Westbrook, Luke Timian, and Donovan Hale to form a good looking wide receiving corps. Philyor’s speed and elusiveness could pose as a big play threat for the Hoosier offense – a much needed one at that.
