Welcome, Hoosier fans to the 2024 Hoosier Huddle Countdown! Over the next 100 days the Hoosier Huddle staff will feature every player on the 2024 roster in anticipation of the season opener on August 31st against the FIU Golden Panthers. Today, we look at redshirt sophomore Max Williams.
COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: # 79 – Max Williams
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 311 pounds
Hometown: Lebanon, Indiana
High School: Lebanon
Class/Position: Redshirt Sophomore / Offensive Line
One of the positions with the most turnover this offseason was the Hoosiers’ offensive line. Redshirt sophomore Max Williams adds some needed depth to this position.
Williams was a three-star recruit coming out of Lebanon High School in Indiana, choosing the Hoosiers over Ball State and Indiana State. In high school, Williams saw snaps at both offensive and defensive tackle. On defense, Williams recorded 17 tackles and was part of a defense that held teams to 6 and 8 points in back-to-back weeks. On the other side of the ball, Williams was part of an offense that put up 47 points in a 47-8 win over Frankfort.
Williams walked on to the Hoosiers during fall camp in 2022 and has yet to make his gameday debut. Williams was, however, named co-offensive scout team player of the week vs. Michigan State in 2022.
Perhaps the most important aspect that Williams brings to the Hoosiers is his versatility and eligibility. With experience on both sides of the ball, Williams can easily add depth and plug gaps wherever needed. As a redshirt sophomore, Williams has the luxury of being able to sit behind and learn from a veteran player like Nick Kidwell. Look for Williams to make the most of his snaps when he finally gets the nod from Coach Cig.
