2021 Countdown to Kickoff: 59 Days (Gavin McCabe)

The 2021 Countdown to Kickoff is running at full-steam and with the Fourth of July in the rearview mirror, the next milestone is Labor Day Week and the beginning of College Football. We are 59 days away from the Indiana Hoosiers traveling to Iowa City to take on the Hawkeyes, which means we are profiling number 59, Gavin McCabe.
Name: Gavin McCabe
Hometown: Oak Lawn, Illinois
Position: Defensive Line
Year: Redshirt Junior
Height/Weight: 6’4”/291 pounds
Redshirt Junior Gavin McCabe has been bounced around from the defensive line to the offensive line and back during his time with the Hoosiers. After redshirting in 2018, McCabe appeared in three games as a redshirt freshman in 2019, making two total tackles.
Prior to the 2020 season, Allen and the coaching staff moved McCabe to the offensive line, but after a season where he did not see any action, McCabe is back on the defensive side of the ball.
“Gavin McCabe, also moved him back to defensive line as well, where he started off. We feel good about the depth (he and Caleb Murphy) can give us there and compete and play. We have an open competition there at the three-technique spot with our two upperclassmen moving onto the NFL. I'm excited to see how that plays itself out.” Allen said during spring practice.
The Hoosiers have filled some holes along the defensive line with Weston Kremer and other transfers, but there is an opportunity for McCabe to step up into the rotation at the three-technique defensive tackle position.
