Brandon Drayton, Safety, Largo, FL, Largo High School, 247Sports Composite – 3- star

The Indiana coaches have become quite familiar with Largo High School. One year after welcoming Largo High alums Jonathan Crawford and Donavan Hale to Bloomington, the Hoosiers have added Brandon Drayton, a 6’2” safety. Drayton committed to IU on January 27 after deciding to decommit from Nebraska. Drayton is a 3-star recruit that played both offense and defense in high school but the IU coaches see him as a valuable member of the secondary that could excel in DC Tom Allan’s new 4-2-5 system.

Drayton had 338 receiving yards with four touchdowns, nine pass break-ups, a pair of fumble recoveries, one interception and 58 tackles during his standout senior season at Largo High School.

Tampa Tribune writer Lynden Ostrander described Drayton as “long and rangy and athletic with great recovery speed. He can lay the wood and is versatile for his size.” He compares to his former high school teammate and IU starting safety Jonathan Crawford. If he can successfully add a bit of weight to his frame, he could factor into the playing rotation in the secondary immediately.
