My dad and I used to have a sort of contest where we'd send each other CD's. Most random great music we could find since the last time we talked. He'd send me shit I'd never heard of, and I'd send him shit he'd never heard of. Sometimes I hit a home run, like when I sent him a Christine Kane CD, and he went and bought her entire discography. Other times we'd talk past each other. He sent me a Shawn Mullins CD he'd made from songs he heard on the radio while driving cross country, and I had to tell him that Mullins was actually kind of famous and I'd already heard it all.
I think it is worth remembering that John Prine discovered Lyle Lovett.
Continuing my bluegrass cover theme.
I feel like this thread doesn't have the traffic it deserves. We need more here. So I'm going to revert to some easy ones. Mostly reposts from the old forum.
@goat I don't even know what's been posted in this new thread, so old forum songs are more than welcome-actually desired. 😊
I saw John Prine live exactly once, at the Murat, in probably 2000 or 2001. It is still one of my greatest memories.
You guys like this guy? One of the comments is on point: when you're happy you enjoy the melody, but when you're broken you understand the lyrics.
Cape Breton fiddle is the best fiddle.
