Anyone here a big Star Wars fan? Re-watching the movies in chronological order right now after first seeing them as a child and loving it. Haven't seen the new Disney trilogy though - I've heard there's one great movie in there and one awful movie. Can anyone confirm?

You mean episode VII, VIII, and IX?
VII is decent and the other two are straight trash.
Rogue One and Solo are better than any of those three.
Rogue One might have been the best Star Wars movie ever if they weren't obsessed with putting Easter Eggs in it. It's basically the Magnificent Seven in space.
@whatthefrik Yeah VII, VIII, and IX. That's a shame that they're poorly done, but I'm not surprised. I will still watch them, however.

I won't spoil them for you, but come back after you've watched them and let me know what you think.
Andor and The Mandalorian were much better received than episodes 7,8, and 9.
But if you're going to watch Andor, you might as well watch Rogue One. And if you're going to watch Rogue One, you should also watch the Clone Wars episodes with Saw Guerrerra. Not all of them, that would take months...although I did so, (shrug)
@whatthefrik Thanks! I plan to do it all eventually! I've heard great things about the clone wars episodes in general

If you're way into star wars, and you want all the back story that makes episode 3 extra heart-breaking and makes Anakin's decision in Episode 3 make more sense, the Clone Wars is required viewing--but there are like 100 episodes, and it takes FOREVER--and those story lines don't end there.
If you want closure on the Ahsoka story, you'll have to watch the live-action Ahsoka show, which is also about to come back for another season this year--and if you want that to all make sense, you'll have to watch Star Wars Rebels before you watch Ahsoka. And if you want the full story on Ahsoka, you'll also want to watch the Mandalorian.
It's so complicated and intertwined now, it's a mess to untangle. They created Clone Wars to fill in the in the plot holes in Episodes 1, 2, and especially Episode 3, and it spawned 8 more plot lines they chose (had to?) to address in Ahsoka, Rebels, the Bad Batch, the Mandalorian, and five more damned seasons of Clone Wars as a result.
I always preferred Star Trek, but now I'm in too deep to quit watching. I'll drag my family kicking and screaming through the Acolyte sometime this year.
@whatthefrik LOL!! I can imagine the graphic now - arrows pointing in every direction between release date and where they fall in chronological order. I can imagine it is crazy to keep up with. I would like to get there eventually though!

@evanalvarez8 You can watch 7, 8, and 9 without having to mess with all that stuff. There is cross-over with 4, 5, and 6, but not with any of the non-movie stuff. Good luck.
@whatthefrik update on my re-watch. Finished IV yesterday night. So I thru IV are now done. Making good progress. The shows will be much harder to get through, but movies are easy!
Did you find that the acting was better in the old movies vs. the I - III trilogy?
Check out my latest at Hoosier Huddle here
@evanalvarez8 I thought the acting was pretty up and down in both. Mark Hamill wasn't a great actor in IV, although he gets better in V and VI. Hayden Christenson wasn't very good in II and III, but I think the writing is at least partly to blame for that. I don't know WTF he's supposed to do with the "I hate sand" monologue. It's just awful writing.
But the older actors, McGregor, Neeson, Guiness, they were fine to excellent, depending. Harrison Ford is just okay in IV, but improves. Carrie Fisher is pretty much always excellent, and Natalie Portman is good enough.
I think the big difference between IV-VI and I-III is the writing, which was average to good in IV-VI, and kinda awful in I-III. I've heard that younger folks that grew up on I-III prefer them, which is surprising to me because the writing is so much worse, in my opinion.
I think V and VI are quite a bit better than IV. Hamill and Ford improved a lot in between, in my opinion.
Interested in your comparison of I and IV...
@whatthefrik I can definitely see what you're saying in terms of the writing. In I-III it feels some lines are forced or don't belong, but watching IV nothing was really glaring to me.
Comparing I vs. IV (trying to keep in mind the 20 year gap in special effects, which impacts a lot), I felt the acting was better in IV, the story was better in IV, and the pacing was better in IV. However, I was much more fun in my opinion. Podracing is electric, dual of the fates is unrivaled, the worlds that are explored are really cool (minus Jar Jar's annoyance).
What do you think?

@evanalvarez8 I can accept the idea that I is more fun. IV actually plays kinda weird now, once you know all the history with Anakin and Obi-Wan. Creepy old dude lures Luke off-planet to thrust him into a civil war by lying to him about his dad. Lolz. Basically, Leia and R2D2, C3PO, and Chewbacca carry IV.
But Jar Jar is such a minus...such a muppet. But I honestly think that was on purpose--but I can't explain why without spoiling VII, VIII, and IX.
@whatthefrik Well now I'm even more excited for VII, VIII, and IX! One theory I heard was that Jar Jar was added for kids to laugh and not much else

My theory on Jar Jar is pretty fringe. Do not get excited for 7, 8, and 9. They will only give you pain.
