I can’t believe I left out the boxing - great call! I met Ali several times here in Louisville, and got to meet Sugar Ray Leonard when he was in town for Ali’s funeral.
I’m also gonna add Johnny Carson. Perfect tone for the times.

Glad I got to see some small venue shows - Bill Monroe in Louisville Central Park, JJ Cale (Jake’s) and Leon (The Bluebird) in Bloomington and Jerry Lee Lewis (Executive Inn) in Owensboro.

My dad was a huge boxing fan back then. I loved watching fights with him. It wasn't until I was an adult that we had a conversation about how he was a fan of Ali, even though he was nearly killed on some hill in Vietnam, that I understood it. Leonard was probably my favorite of those guys.
