A long time ago there was a thread on the OG OTF titled “I Confess …”

It became legendary

Everybody played

I’m not hoping to match it, but to inspire some good stuff anyway.

My list of stuff I’m glad I lived to experience:

The Beatles, from “I Want To Hold Your Hand” all the way through Abbey Road.

Bob Gibson

Neil Armstrong on the moon

The roots of outlaw country

Hank Aaron hit No. 715

McGwire/Sosa chase Maris

Reggie Jackson hit 4 dingers in a row in 2 World Series games on 4 pitches from 4 Dodger pitchers

Bo Jackson break a bat over his knee

Mark Spitz win 7 gold medals in 7 races and set 7 world records

The Miracle on Ice

Secretariat

The 2024 and 2025 IU football Hoosiers

The fall of the Berlin Wall

The election of the first black US President

Cindy Peterson

The Phillies winning a world series.

Thats the only thing I can think of that isn't already listed above.

Well, that and season 1 of Euphoria.  Sydney Sweeney.

The ABA Pacers

The Knight led IU teams

The Madden and Flores led Raiders teams (before we got the Colts)

The Manning era Colts teams after mostly suffering through the previous 14 years

The Dream Team

The Mallory, Hep, and Covid Allen years that showed we could compete and the Cignetti era to erase all doubt

Saturday Night Live (back when it was good)

Being old enough to have experienced first hand many of the simpler traditions and things of eras past yet young enough to fully embrace much of the advancements of the age of modern technology

The Space Shuttle program

Of course the fall of the USSR and the Berlin Wall

The dumb luck and sheer happenstance of randomly meeting my soulmate while tossing around a football in my friend's backyard as a teen and never looking back

A good friend will bail you out of jail, but your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "that was f***ing awesome"

Some great ones.  I'll add:

  • Ripken breaking Gehrig's record.
  • Seeing all 4 four-time Indy 500 winners win their 4th.
  • All the Bird v Magic showdowns
  • Reggie's 8 in 9 against the Knickerbockers
  • Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Tyson, Mancini, Hagler, and Foreman fights
  • The heyday of SI swimsuit issues
  • The Bicentennial

I can’t believe I left out the boxing - great call! I met Ali several times here in Louisville, and got to meet Sugar Ray Leonard when he was in town for Ali’s funeral.

I’m also gonna add Johnny Carson. Perfect tone for the times.

Too much music to mention, but I’d still mention Dylan, Prine, Cash, Allman Brothers,  Haggard, Sam Cooke, James Brown, Hendrix, The Eagles, Motown. Glad I got to see some small venue shows - Bill Monroe in Louisville Central Park, JJ Cale (Jake’s) and Leon (The Bluebird) in Bloomington and Jerry Lee Lewis (Executive Inn) in Owensboro.

My dad was a huge boxing fan back then.  I loved watching fights with him. It wasn't until I was an adult that we had a conversation about how he was a fan of Ali, even though he was nearly killed on some hill in Vietnam, that I understood it. Leonard was probably my favorite of those guys.

The music is endless.  That needs to be its own thread if we want to do it up right.

Taylor Swift's discography is rather large at this point.

@unclemark Don't forget the look on a lot of the Alabama fans who were probably very smug before the game. They looked decimated and it was beautiful!!!!!!!!!! Roflol

While I regarded God as a tyrant I thought my sin a trifle; But when I knew Him to be my Father, then I mourned that I could ever have kicked against Him. When I thought God was hard, I found it easy to sin; but when I found God so kind, so good, so overflowing with compassion, I smote upon my breast to think that I could ever have rebelled against One who loved me so, and sought my good.” C. H. Spurgeon

2025-6 Indiana Football is probably unmatched, though recency bias is real
Michael Jordan in the 90s - specifically his shot against Russell and the Jazz
9/11 - terrible event, but haven't seen that type of unity in a long time
Devin Hester's kick/punt returns
Football when big hits were legal
Hanging Lake outside Glenwood Springs, CO
Aurora Borealis this fall
Blackhawks dynasty
