"The Administration spin on this simply isn't believable. Stephen Miller, the political architect of the mass deportation policy, called Pretti "a domestic terrorist." He was a nurse without a criminal record. To hear the ardent gun-rights advocates of the Trump Administration claim he had malicious intentions because he carried a concealed weapon is bizarre. The agents may say they felt threatened but it's worth noting the comments over the weekend by police around the country who say this isn't how they conduct law enforcement . . . This is backfiring against Republicans.
"Mr. Miller's mass deportation methods are turning immigration, an issue Mr. Trump owned in 2024, into a political liability for Republicans in 2026. Americans don't want law enforcement shooting people in the street or arresting five year-old boys."
Ryan talking now. If there was any kind of serious oversight of ICE, they wouldn't be just suspending operations in Minneapolis but installing new leadership and retraining many of these agents who are obviously out of their depth. Fat chance of any of that happening, though.
Based upon Trump's comments in the WSJ interview, I don't think the ICE agent who shot will be sleeping very well and better start seeking his own lawyer.

Sacrificial lamb?
The New York Post's editorial board has offered comments similar to the WSJ, noting that eyewitness video of the shooting directly undercuts Trump officials’ claims that Pretti “brandished” a firearm at federal agents.
"The alacritous and misleading rhetoric coming out of the administration needs to stop. Any reasonable person who has watched the videos clearly knows by now he was not ‘waving his gun around,'" the Post said.
“Noem should also take a break from her self-promoting and combative TV hits,” it added.

The “five year old boy” thing is a media hoax. The “shooting people in the street” thing is a stupid overstatement. Taken together, both statements deliberately inflame emotions and make worse the atmosphere in which ICE agents must work.
ICE isn’t perfect, but good lord, crap like this quote is dangerous for everyone.

It’s perfect example of how the left fails in criticizing Trump, they’ll lump complete fabrications (5 year old boy) with valid criticisms (Petti) all with the least nuanced language possible.
Sure, calling Pretti domestic terrorist is inappropriate. But he wasn’t there by chance. He was directed to that specific place at that specific time by means of a social network intended to encourage confronting and obstructing ICE agents in their work at all times and in all places. Pretty voluntarily inserted himself into the melee.
Indeed, Trump deserves criticism in a number of ways. The left, and even republicans, can’t pull it off in a meaningful way.

Facts that are clear from the videos.
1) The man never pulled his gun. Both hands were visible constantly, one with a phone in it and the other was empty.
2) He was wrestled to the ground, kicked, and at some point on of his attackers noticed that there was a weapon in his waistband and shouted "gun!".
3) One of the seven attackers took his gun away.
4) The then-unarmed man was executed, by up to 9 shots.
I think calling it "shooting people in the street" is pretty mild, in this case. It was in all actuality a public state execution.

He inserted himself between a woman who was being roughed up and an out of control thug and was murdered for it. Otherwise he was a bystander who was observing and recording, not impeding or interfering in any way.

Now tackle what NOWM and the Border Patrol chief said

Let me preface this by saying, the ICE agent that shot Pretti (if it was only one, I'm not sure that's entirely clear) should be investigated and prosecuted if that's what the investigation leads to (which it looks like it most assuredly will).
But
Is it possible to "observe and record" more than 12 inches in front of the ICE agent? I know I know. But he most certainly impedes the agent's personal space to "get in his face." Just 2x that camera and you get the same shot. My take is, again, poke the bear all you want but don't be surprised if it turns on you. In this case, the bear is an armed agent of the fedearl government who should damn well know better and be able to control his emotions. That's why he's likely to be prosecuted.
I guess Mark I don't understand the motivations, or thought processes, that lead a person to engage in a physical altercation while carrying a concealed weapon. I'm sure were he to have lived through this altercation there would be a small part of him (or large, who knows) that would reconsider his own actions that day.
all that to say, the ICE agent should be brought up on charges and the battle should be between the authority of the state of MN to do so and the feds to protect him from same.
@larsiu This is also what you get with useless representation. That goofy mayor should hold a conference to say do not interfere with ICE, if you’re an instigator local police will arrest you, and we are opening an investigation into the shooting and the DA has been notified
