Government.

On the north side of Denver is I 270, an interstate beltway. The road is way overburdened with traffic and has been that way for decades.  It serves the industrial area and carries a lot of truck traffic.  Not only is traffic in a constant  state of back-up during normal hours, the bridges are so inadequate that the decks are in a constant disrepair and patching.

In 2020 the state and federal officials agreed to a commence a reconstruction project.  Having gotten caught again in the backup up this morning, and seeing no signs of the reconstruction project, I checked about the status.  I learned that the project was in “environmental review” and that the final design and specs would not be completed until the fall of 2026!  WTF?  After going through the bid and selection process for the general contractor, actual construction is at least 2 years away—7 years after the decision to rebuild.

Meanwhile the costs of an inadequate highway in terms of wasted time, idling motors, accidents, and stop-gap repairs keep pilling up.

with super fast computers and CAD software, the actual production of plans and specs should be a matter of several weeks.  The delays are simply the result of too much government and red tape.  The project needs a good dose of DOGE.

We can do better.  A month or so ago, I looked  up the status of the Francis Scott Key bridge rebuild. That  project is already ahead of this one.

end of rant.
