President Trump on Monday said that Education Secretary Linda McMahon will begin the process of dismantling the Education Department in the wake of the Supreme Court decision allowing the administration to resume layoffs at the agency.
Since taking office, the administration has sought to lay off half of the agency’s workforce and transfer some of its core functions, such as managing student loans, to other federal departments.
The ruling on Monday lifts Joun’s injunction as the litigation proceeds in the lower courts, but it is not a final decision.
I admittetldy know very little about the topic other than the news headlines. Does anyone have a good understanding of how this will affect education? I would like to hear some postives and negatives of the move.
How will moving responsibilty back to the states help or hinder? Is this about money or making state needs over federal regualtions?
I'm on the fence as I don't understand what's at stake. Just please don't give me an argument that if Trump wants this it must be good. Thats not thoughtful and is just group think. TIA
Regarding the above article it doesn't go into much detail other than the dismantling of the department is underway. It says student loans will be handled elsewhere. Trump claims "America’s Students will be the best, brightest, and most Highly Educated anywhere in the World." I just want to know how so.
