I'm for shrinking government and always have been, I wasn't for doing it the way that DOGE was trying to do it because it was moronic. Tell me how allowing thousands of people to accept a deal to go on administrative leave in March 2025 through the end of September 2025 at full pay and benefits then hiring another person to do the same job at the same time, because the job is necessary, made any fiscal sense at all. It sure as hell wasn't conservative. Those on admin leave loved it, but that's about it. Thankfully DOGE is defunct, but not before doing more harm.

It likely ended up costing more than it “saved.” We did tax the American people about $300 billion due to tariffs and spent less while government was shutdown (not pay since that was retroactively paid) that has led to a slightly smaller deficit this past FY25 (which started 1 October 2024) but we’ve made no major systemic changes that would lead to reducing spending, the deficits on a permanent basis, and have not reduced debt.
