Of course the worst thing about winter weather driving is other drivers, but I took a turn at 2 MPH today and fishtailed anyway.
I haven't been out today since the snow started this afternoon. I'm sure if I were to go out now it would be slickery and I'd have to be really really careful. But I do have to get out tomorrow late morning and unless it's coming down hard at the time the roads on the route I'll need to take should be decent based on past experience. Of course, that presumes I'll be able to get out of the trailer park. The management sucks at clearing the streets in here.

I'm officially snowed in until they get my street. Got out of the driveway and immediately got stuck. Had to shovel the snow out from under my car to baby it back into the driveway. Pajamas and bathrobe rest of the day.
Went outside and shoveled the walk way to the barn. Shoveled around to where we can get to our vehicles.
Looks like about 4 or so inches so far. Doesn't sound so bad until the wind kicks in and we have some snow at the end of my drive that's about a foot high. We have a long, wide driveway that I have to deal with.
It's to early to deal with that. We'll see if I can get us out before the day is over.

Officially we have 8.5". I'd say it's closer to a foot here in the estates and it's still coming down steadily but not heavily. Streets in the trailer park haven't been touched. I cleared the snow off my car but am not even going to try getting out.
Bloomington has gone under the red travel warning, only emergency personnel are supposed to be on the road. So I am heading out to make sure crazy people aren't on the road ;).
I saw something listed as post of the day from Whiteland police, "We have reached the 4x4 vehicles only portion of the storm. Your '09 Chrysler Sebring WILL get stuck. The polar pop can wait."
I hadn't thought of this but an Indy station just mentioned it. They run the plows down the interstate pushing snow to the right. The end result is a lot of cars stuck on exit ramps as the snow has piled up.
I want to try and make a dent on shoveling, but at this cold and my age, for the first time ever I have concerns about the wisdom.
correction. The bottom 2/3rds of the state might get shut down. The north will continue on like normal, because we aren't massive pussies. VBG.Snow only at an inch+ here so far, but roads are as treacherous as I've ever seen them. I think much of this state will be shut down for the next two days.
Apparently the Guv just declared a disaster.

I'm in touch with people around the state right now, and I'm shocked more counties haven't gone red yet. Everyone tells the same story: roads impossible, snow continuing to fall. Here, we've got snowplows that just keep going back and forth on the two main north-south drags, because they can't keep them clean enough to ever turn onto any other roads. They haven't even tried to plow the highway yet. And when they do finally get to it, like you said, they'll probably just block all the exits anyway.

I don't have the strength or stamina to do much of that anymore. Best I've been able to do is don the wife's Wellies and stagger out to my car and clear it off with a broom. Park manager just came through with his first pass.

I hope your NIPSCO bill triples.
Where are you seeing an official 8.5? The BAM guys this morning were ripping on Indiana weather reporting being way behind. I think your total is much higher.Of course the worst thing about winter weather driving is other drivers, but I took a turn at 2 MPH today and fishtailed anyway.

Fox59 this morning, maybe two hours ago. And yeah, I think it's closer to a foot and still coming down.
I wonder if the weather reporting is effected by the cuts at NWS?
I am about 3 miles south of Mark, a couple pokes with the yardstick reveals close enough to make no difference 11 inches.
Yeah, people were commenting about that during the BAM cast. I was watching Fox59 and at around 7:00, they were showing 4.3" at the Indy Airport, but admitted that had to be waaaaay behind. The BAM guys were making fun, saying that it wasn't the first time. NWS airport then updated to 8.5" while the BAM guys were on, but it was obvious they were still behind.Where are you seeing an official 8.5? Who are these BAM people you're referring to?
