Shelves are already empty here at all but the fanciest stores. Churches already closed. Turn looks to be shut down for the next three days no matter how much snow actually happens.
How's it your way? @arthur-dent expecting the big one?
@goat yep, bread is an unknown commodity. Some schools have already closed Monday, and numerous churches are closed. The BAM weather people have us for just over 16. The good news, it really will not start sticking until about 7. So the celebration just has to deal with near 0 wind chill for the celebration. We are still trying to decide if we want to go. Bloomington has a "Freeze Fest", an ice sculpture exhibition. We went yesterday for 20 minutes and was miserable. That made me doubt going today. Getting old sucks, in my youth that cold wouldn't have bothered me.
They cancelled the IU fan busses to the women's game in Lafayette tomorrow.
I will gladly take the snow. I saw Atlanta might get .3 of freezing rain. That will trigger massive power outages. Freezing rain may happen all the way up to the Ohio River.
The BAM guy was saying it won't be a Blizzard of 78. He at first thought we were not close to blizzard levels, but the newest model runs have us close enough he wouldn't rule it out. But '78 had 50 mph winds, we aren't close to that.
We’re east of Atlanta and the locals are freaking out. “Remember 2014.”
Expecting .25-.5 inches of ice.
Skeptics scoff and say we’ll get some rain and/or the ice will just be a little north of us, north of I-20.
My day was all planned out to see the CELEBRATION at 1:00. Should be hot enough to keep any snow and cold away.
Dream within a dream . . .
Can anyone here play this game?
@univee2 was 2014 the spring break snow? I know people who left early and made it through, the rest had a few day wait to get through.
Wife spent yesterday and the overnight with the daughter and grandkids, and she accompanied the daughter on her typical Friday daytime grocery trip yesterday in Rushville. Said the Kroger was a nightmare (twice as busy and low on stock) but Save-A-Lot was dead and fully stocked. Also went to Troyers (Amish Store a few miles from her) and it was typical Friday (brisk business but well stocked).
I reckon the only thing most of us here would have to worry about would be losing power for extended period of days and the damage that could cause. Otherwise I think we can all hunker down and ride this out. In a few days we should all be dug out.

Truck already parked at end of driveway, firewood brought in, ribs in the oven (it’s too damn cold outside for another method).
Let’s just keep the power on
I mentioned BAM Weather, they have pay clients that subscribe to them. But on the day of the storms us mortals can get a look. About an hour ago, they said the new high-resolution models were in, and they were looking them over. About 20 minutes later, they said:
This latest run of the HRRR is so aggressive. I cannot show it to you. I need to see more evidence before I post a map like that, but it just absolutely buries, southern Indiana and more snow than I’ve ever seen a model forecast for this part of the state in my life.
Accuweather tells me 1-2" today, 1-3" tonight, and 4-8" tomorrow, so 6-13" total. As long as it's a light dry snow -- which is what I expect with the temps being so low -- I'm not that concerned. As long as we don't lose power, we'll manage.
I predict 12" here in Central Indianapolis. (TWSS)
.
I don’t have much food, as I just got back to town after almost three weeks. Going to Uber Eats a couple meals before it gets too bad. Can you imagine campus? It’s always crazy with snow, so first they get a Natty and then a giant snowstorm. What a time to be alive!!

More like a short lived 6"...

Snow only at an inch+ here so far, but roads are as treacherous as I've ever seen them. I think much of this state will be shut down for the next two days.
Apparently the Guv just declared a disaster.

We've got maybe 2" so far. Accuweather lives up to its name.
I'm an old country boy who learned to drive on unplowed roads in the hills and hollers. This is the kind of weather I wish I still had a manual transmission, but if you know how to handle it this stuff isn't all that bad. Just need to look out for the chuckleheads in their big 4x4s who think they're immune to the laws of physics.
Obviously the worst is south of us. KY looks to be in big trouble.

Of course the worst thing about winter weather driving is other drivers, but I took a turn at 2 MPH today and fishtailed anyway.
