Hegseth is calling all O-7 to O-10 and their staffers to Quantico next week. The fact that it's such short notice gives me pause.

A good friend will bail you out of jail, but your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "that was f***ing awesome"

Nope, but a message is being sent.

While Sergey Lapdog, Moscow's equivalent of Baghdad Bob, certainly isn't on my list "trusted" sources I am still concerned over what amounts to an unprecedented peacetime call home of top military brass by the Sec Def/War.

I'm concerned that Major Hegseth has publicly announced the gathering in advance. It's a big violation of normal OPSEC practice. He's creating a very tempting terrorist target. It'll take a ton of security to keep all of this high-level brass safe while they're in and around Quantico.

What's your best guess as to the purpose of the meeting?

While I agree in spirit, if they aren't safe in and around Quantico, they aren't safe anywhere. I'd have to believe the security will be off the charts.
I am more concerned with the "why" of it. I can't help but think we're about to jump into somebody's (Russia, Iran, NK?) ass with both feet.

Major? Isn’t he “Secretary” Hegseth?I am still concerned over what amounts to an unprecedented peacetime call home of top military brass by the Sec Def/War.

Yes, Major Hegseth is the Secretary of Defense (Secretary of War per him and the Prez). He's the least qualified in my lifetime - including every Democrat administration. All that brass he's gathering probably have the least regard for him they've ever had for a Secretary. They know he's a liar when he said he didn't insert classified information into the infamous Signal chat. Every single one of those officers knows it was classified and that Hegseth lied, and continues to lie, when he said/says it wasn't. He's fired Admirals and Generals for seemingly nothing more than carrying out the lawful orders of the previous Commander in Chief. He's inserted the military into civilian affairs where they have no reason to be. He's also a self-promoter. Hard to respect that kind of person.Major? I actually don't have a guess. I've never seen it done before and there's little logical about what Hegseth does. What’s your best guess as to the purpose of the meeting?
He and the President are leaning into being warmongers so maybe something along those lines - maybe against Venezuela. Got to pick on a weak sister when you're a warmongering bully.
My guess, either US troops peacekeeping a deal in Gaza or they are planning military deployment to ICE facilities and want to show total buy in.
Even I don't think Trump is crazy enough to go after Russia. With modern communications the only reasons I can think of to bring everyone together would be a show of support for something that might be otherwise unpopular. Generally I don't think that would be a war against a country we could easily defeat (Iran). If we had Intel someone was going to attack us, we wouldn't have a meeting. Scratch nuclear countries off the list, and the options for the meeting are limited.

Greenland just went to DEFCON 1.
@dbmhoosier There is no need for every 07 and above in the military to be in a meeting about Bagram.
Afghanistan said no on that, which I think is a good idea to have, will we take it back by force?
