Of course Musk thinks of it terms of "Whites". It happens in advanced societies, Japan has struggled for more than a generation, China's birthrate is below replacement rate. Neither are "White."
I am going to mention an experiment, but a disclaimer. There is NO indication this is true for humans via experimentation and extrapolating from other species is not close to guarantee.
There were a series of experiments with rats called Universe 25. They gave the rats unlimited food and water. The rats basically lived surrounded by food, no work required and no predators. For a year, the colony grew wildly. Then the rats stopped breeding, female rats wouldn't care for the young, male rats fought incessantly.
No way to say modern post industrial society is having that same effect. But it is something to consider.
In 1800s America people wanted children because they would be monetized to work the farm, or industry. Today children are huge money pits. Don't get me wrong, love my kids and would have them again if the choice existed. But we have discussed here and it has often been said that getting the career stabilized before getting married, and having adequate savings before buying a house or having kids is smart. It reduces the risks of bankruptcy. Do all that and you will be older before having kids. People I went to school with that had kids at 19, and their kids had kids at 19, have grandkids in their mid 20s, not much younger than my youngest. And they had a higher risk of needing government assistance.
Young women in this country have been sold a bill of goods in that they should forsake kids and a family for a career. It's a massive mistake and they will end up alone and miserable for life.

I would rather see a chart comparing white female Harris voters with white female Trump voters.
The chart, as presented, combines factors of two groups, being female and being liberal, into a single data set.
Even with that defect, I think the chart explains why liberal females in general are more likely to be depressed, anxious, and unhappy than their conservative counterparts. All data show that marriage and motherhood are foundational for a happy, healthy, and satisfying life. As single childless females grow older, and loneliness takes its toll, the situation will worsen.
@co-hoosier the board skews older. Myself and farva are probably the only millennials on the board. Both of my exes are too. One an older one one a younger one. Neither want to be home with kids all day. They want to go out and do shit. Buy fancy clothes. Drive nice cars. I HATE both of them in different ways and both are horrible bitches in different ways but both would KILL for their kids and are good moms. Caring moms.

I would be curious how the data was achieved. Someone who wants children will be unhappy not having children. Are women who never wanted children unhappy? Anecdotal but the people I know who never wanted children range from unhappy to very happy. As do the people I know who wanted and had children.

Dbm we need to stop fretting over this. As Marv pointed out, it is typical of wealthy, secular societies throughout history. I'm skeptical that stuff like a child tax credits or universal child care and health care would change the trend. It's not a cost problem. The wealthier you are, the less kids you have in this country. Short of a religious revival I don't see the trend reversing anytime soon.
Best thing the U.S. can do is keep the Muslims out and closely vet the people we allow in. Europe would probably need some sort of crusade to change course while they still have the numbers. This time on the streets of London, Paris, Berlin, and Stockholm. I don't think they can be saved.

But are we wealthy? And I mean by that is when you ask younger people they frequently say they aren't having kids because they can't afford them. Tons of student loan debt, skyrocketing housing costs, no good jobs, etc.
