"It's Indiana."

lol, yea right… the campuses where people were actively harassed and conservative commentators were cancelled just happened to not be factored in
@jdb FIRE is usually pretty non-partisan. Per your comment, Harvard and Columbia are the only two schools ranked behind Indiana.
But Zeke is jumping the gun as I think a lot of the self-censorship students are engaged in cuts towards censoring Conservative beliefs as well. There’s still a 3:1 liberal to conservative ratio at IU after all. The 74% percent of IU students that believe shouting down a speaker they disagree with is acceptable and the 35% that believe violence to stop a speaker they disagree with is acceptable….. are we supposed to believe they’re all conservatives? Fat chance. That math doesn’t work. A lot of the problematic speech policies FIRE cites in their ranking are left leaning policies.
So pinning this all on Whitten and Braun is extremely dumb and shows that Zeke and the author of that Indy Stat article didn’t even bother to go to FIRE’s website before letting people know their inane thoughts.

First of all, UT was a public school last I checked and its ranked below IU. Secondly, the rankings are arbitrary garbage.
You mean to tell me after all of the shit at UCLA the past year that it's basically the same as U of Iowa and also has a "Green" spotlight rating, though no other school on the page has this?
It's absolute trash. God forbid a public school have the balls to crack down on pro-Palestinian supporters who are ruining the campus and disrupting everyone else's experience and push back on DEI policies.
such bullshit. you’re more intelligent than this. For free speech. Thanks President Whitten and Gov Braun. What a great way to be recognized. https://www.indystar.com/story/news/education/2025/09/09/indiana-university-ranked-us-worst-public-college-free-speech/85991079007/
Are you new here? She may not be the dumbest but better hope nothing happens to Hickory…
Whitten literally had snipers with "assault weapons" gunning down kids in Dunn Meadow.
There were a series of midnight candlelight vigils held at Sample Gates after the new rules were put in place. No speeches, no signs, no chants. The people taking part were subject to administrative action. I think after some hearings IU "graciously" decided 1) not to say what they had done was protected and 2) not to punish them.
So yes, there is a problem.

Whatever.
I've lost sympathy for the rotating band of shitlib misfits this school has catered to for the past twenty years. Overpaid "career students" that roll through town, fuck things up with whatever activism is popular at the time, while collecting government/Dem NGO checks, then move on once their time is up, and even the local, old-school Dems turn on them.
Farmer's Market. School board. Homeless problem. All the same loser shitlibs you guys rally around who eventually (always) fail, and then leave.
You can include Hamilton in that list. What a femmy, fucking douchebag...and you guys loved him. What's he doing now? Living in DC collecting millions from some NGO?
If Robinson is indeed talking shit(lib) BS in Germanic class, he needs to be sanctioned...go do that shit in Dunn Meadow or whatever. Him and his mousey wife...pfft. Weak as fuck.
Cultural shift going on in America right now. The country is tired of the BS. Tired of being held hostage by these weak losers. Trump is basically old-school Clinton. Same dude. You guys are so clouded by your partisan arguments, you can't see it, and you let your party be dragged down by the fucking losers now at the helm.
Whitten, Buckner, and Braun are trying to return IU to it's previous 70's/80's/90's greatness...and I'm all for it. About time.
Let's see the local Freedom of Speech "defenders" when Charlie Kirk comes to town. 😆
@mattndallas THE AMERICAN PATRIOT going to slap those woke academics silly!!!!
@mattndallas THE AMERICAN PATRIOT going to slap those woke academics silly!!!!
Before Whitten...no way he could come here.
Shitlibs and IU itself would have shut it down.
Now...different story. No more bullshit.
Even at the football games...students are belting out the National Anthem. Campus is becoming more "College Fix", and less "Berkley of the Midwest". More Outkick, less Deadspin.
Jordan Ave is being called Jordan Ave again.
DEI hires are getting punted from the Athletic Department.
The dark shadow that has hovered over this town is being lifted...
The nerdy, shitlib academics see it, and hate it...thus the teeth gnashing bullshit about "freedom of speech" and "Whitten the fascist". 😆
@mattndallas tear in my eye. MAKE IU GREAT AGAIN!!! More SEC less Berkeley.
IRYNA @hurryinghoosiers SAY HER NAME!!!!!

Is UT the University of Texas? They're not ranked behind IU in the 2025 rankings. Of course the rankings are arbitrary, that will be the case when measuring something amorphous like free speech. But FIRE is not some leftist outgrowth, they're essentially what the ACLU used to be.
