$100 says CarRamRod Jr. is the whistleblower
Remember when students whining about uncomfortable things they heard in the classroom were called snowflakes?
@stollcpa you got that right stoll. TEACH. you want to give your political opinions run for office. FAFO. this is the nwo Mas predicted. in other words: THE RECKONING
@stollcpa agreed, but lets not stop there. We need to include superintendents as well.
And yet, the GOP has no problem giving tax money to parochial schools.@stollcpa agreed, but lets not stop there. We need to include superintendents as well.
.
@stollcpa agreed overall. Its just a bummer colleges, even some high school classes, can't be a place where teenagers and young adults can start to learn how to discuss and debate our government and political system. I'd say both sides have ruined this important time, and opportunity, for our young people.
While I am fine with freedom of speech, why should a university allow a Germanic studies prof to spout off about politics, Palestine, etc.? This is an example of “shut up and dribble” and stay in your lane.
if this prof wants to have opinions on social media or in other public forums, that should generally be fine if it doesn’t cross the line (hate, violence, etc.). But using your own lectures as a forum doesn’t seem to uphold the standards and expectations of your job responsibilities as agreed upon by your employer.

@jdb the class isn't "speaking German" but German "thought and culture." As such, politics is bound to come up.
I have no opinion on what happened because I don't know. 1 anonymous complaint might mean something, it also might be someone making it up. I really have no idea how they corroborated the complaint. There has been no discussion how they did it. If students were contacted and asked, fine. If one complaint was accepted at face value, hmm, seems problematic.

Does that matter @arthur-dent ? I never said it was a class about speaking German, I said Germanic studies, which I presumed to mean a study of the history of Germany. My point remains though - does that professor have a right to be providing his opinion on a variety of topics that are otherwise outside of the syllabus?
@jdb since I don't know any context, I don't know. Was the class discussing other issues before/after class? I really have no idea My main point is we do not know what sort of investigation there was. One anonymous complaint is seldom dispositive. Do we have evidence beyond that one letter? No one has said what supportive evidence exists.
If the letter is 100% accurate, I agree there is a problem. I just do not know how we know the letter was perfectly accurate, or even slightly accurate. You could file an anonymous complaint.
The professor is quoted quite a bit in that article. He doesn't contest the accuracy of the complaint--only the form of it, the process behind filing it, and the fact the person filed it anonymously.@jdb since I don't know any context, I don't know.
