@co-hoosier He's insane, and his terroristic threats earlier this week were a violation of international law.
@shooter Iran has earned billions of dollars from oil sales since the war began. A helluva lot more than the $1.7 billion Obama loaded on the plane. And now, supposedly in collaboration with the United States (!), the "evil, crazy bastards" (to quote Trump) are going to be making a shit-ton of additional money in tolls.
That Trump! He's some dealmaker!
I actually think you're giving him way too much credit. I doubt he thought much about the Strait before he started the war. I think he naively believed Iran would be so decimated militarily that they wouldn't be able to exercise any control over it.Reporter Jonathan Karl asked President Trump this morning if he's okay with Iran charging tolls for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
"We're thinking of doing it as a joint venture. It's a way of securing it — also securing it from lots of other people...It's a beautiful thing."
Let that sink in. This is a president who just started a war with Iran. Who bombed Iranian soil. Who told the American people this was about freedom of navigation and protecting our national security. And he just told a reporter — unprompted — that the plan is to go into business with Iran over the same waterway he used as the justification for war.
He didn't slip. He didn't misspeak. He called it beautiful. There are only two explanations and both are disqualifying. Either Trump started a war that has already killed thousands of people — not to protect America, but to position himself for a foreign business deal with the country he was bombing.
Or he is so detached from reality that he genuinely doesn't understand what he just admitted. This was never about the Strait of Hormuz. It was never about Iran's nuclear program. It was never about American security. It was always about the deal. It is always about the deal. The blood of every soldier and civilian killed in this conflict deserves an answer to one simple question: Was this war started so Trump could collect a toll?
He's incompetent and insane.
Candace Owens: "The 25th amendment needs to be invoked. He is a genocidal lunatic. Our Congress and military need to intervene. We are beyond madness."
Anthony Scaramucci (tagging John Thune): "Are you serious right now? Are you not going to denounce this? Are you not going to seek the removal of this crazy person? This is your responsibility that is what Article I of the Constitution is about.”
Alex Jones: "WAR CRIME ALERT!!” The definition of genocide is destroying an entire civilization/people! Trump literally sounds like an unhinged super villain from a Marvel comic movie.”
MTG: "25TH AMENDMENT!!!" Not a single bomb has dropped on America. We cannot kill an entire civilization. This is evil and madness."
Oh wait. Two-week (Trump's favorite time period) extension! Further erosion of the lunatic's credibility (if in fact he has any left), but no destruction of "an entire civilization."
His rhetoric, by itself, is insanity. 25th AMENDMENT!!!
I'm open to listening to an argument, but good grief... can you find a bigger bunch of losers to try and make a point?
My subtle (I guess too subtle) point was that even some of his formerly biggest cheerleaders are calling out the insanity.
My main point is that he's out of his mind. Do you disagree?
He's not out of his mind, but you might be.

I'll bet you were working all morning on that not-at-all-clever retort, but you get an "A" for effort!
nothing has changed in the middle east. It's the same regime in Iran, Israel is still bombing it's neighbors, and everyone there still hates the US and blames us for all of this. Oh wait, one thing has changed. Iran will now be charging a $2 million toll to pass through the Strait. Something that's never happened. So that's cool.Obviously, Trumps enemies, whether in Iran or in Congress, or in the media took his threats to end Iranian civilization seriously. While Americans yapped about the 25th Amendment, Iran went tits up. The middle east is forever changed.
This is 400 level pattern recognition.
The Geneva Conventions demand that we not target civilians. The threat to "destroy a civilization" is a war crime, by definition. There is no need to quote losers or winners. It's literally 2+2=4 in the world of international relations.

So when do we start prosecuting these crimes?
"God is great, Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse on the Jews, Victory to Islam".
"Globalize the Intifada"
"From the River to the Sea"
A good friend will bail you out of jail, but your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "that was f***ing awesome"
I don't think it was Iran who blinked here.
Here is President Obama's Iran deal vs. Trump's Iran ceasefire.
Under President Obama:
•The Strait of Hormuz was open because it was never closed.
•Limitations were placed on Iran's uranium enrichment.
•Iran agreed not to to make nuclear weapons.
•International inspectors were permitted into Iran to confirm full compliance.
Under Trump's ceasefire:
•The Strait of Hormuz will open but under direct Iranian control, possibly with a $2 million fee extracted from each vessel passing through. That toll would be split between Iran and Oman. The Strait was only closed because Trump started his war.
•Iran does not have to guarantee a limit on uranium enrichment.
•Iran does not guarantee that it will never develop nuclear weapons and there will be no international inspectors.
THE ART OF THE DEAL, BABY!!

You left out the part their military and leaders have been decimated and the odds of them developing a nuclear bomb anytime soon is basically 0.

They've been two weeks away for how many DECADES now?
oh weird. I never knew that we had the best military in the world by light years. We also have the best fire departments. I should go light my neighbors house on fire to prove that to everyone!!nothing has changed in the middle east. Also I didn't leave out anything. Under the ceasefires Iran is keeping their uranium and will not agree to stopping their nuclear program. I suspect you stopped reading after you were triggered by the name "Obama".

Right, the coin of criminals and money launderers (and probably equally loathsome soccer fans-see if Mc really has left,).
