Fortunately, we do have some of the Mine Countermeasure LCS ships in the Gulf. They have some work to do.

The US Navy decommissioned Middle East minesweepers last year. Here’s what they did.

Germany has a fleet of state of the art minesweepers

Yes, Germany has a modern and active minesweeping force within the https://www.bundeswehr.de/en/organization/navy/structure/flotilla-1/3-minesweeper-squadron&ved=2ahUKEwii2qTj3J2TAxVZJEQIHRbiOZcQy_kOegQIARAE&opi=89978449&cd&psig=AOvVaw2uN2hqO4LUjkHpnxP6P2Dz&ust=177352048066900 0">Bundeswehr Navy. The German Navy operates specialized vessels for this purpose, including Frankenthal-class minehunters, Ensdorf-class drones, and Seehund unmanned surface vessels to detect and clear naval mines, particularly in the Baltic Sea.

Does anyone know, what happens to the oil being produced in countries that rely on the Gulf if shipping is shut down for too long? My understanding has always been that oil production isn't something that can just be paused. The crude is going to come in at a certain rate, and it has to go somewhere, and that means the refined products need to leave to make room for new production. But eventually, there will be no place to put it. So what happens?

Or do I have that wrong, and in the worst case scenario, they really can just temporarily shut off production?

All that I know about oil production is the result of a Tommy Norris rant, and I don't remember an episode where that was covered.

A search led me to this article

https://www.resilience.org/stories/2020-05-28/shutting-down-oil-wells-a-risky-and-expensive-option/

Dammit, I broke this thread.

Just watched a clip of Pissed-Off Pete's press briefing/press attack.  Like Bondi, he's clearly playing to an audience of one.

The contrast between Pete and General Caine speaking next to him couldn't be more striking.  I can't figure out whether Hegseth is actually as angry and emotional as he often appears or whether it's just part of the performance for the prez.

Typical of a dry drunk.

He pledged, in December 2024, to stop drinking if confirmed as Secretary of Defense.  I applaud anyone who achieves sobriety but, man, he went almost immediately from episodes of heavy drinking to SOD and working for Trump. He almost certainly needs support (meetings, therapy) and I hope he's getting it.

I can't imagine being Secretary of Defense and not drinking.

Heavy enough and often enough for it to bite him on the ass on numerous occasions.

There is no number or time frame that determines if you're an abuser or not. The determining factor (according to the professionals) is how it effects your life. It sounded like his drinking had a detrimental effect on both his personal and professional lives.

Hegseth is the least qualified Secretary of Defense and also the least respected by senior officers and civilians within DoD in my lifetime. Rightfully so as he's a self-promoting, blustering liar. He's been told by his JAGs that the strikes on drug boats are very likely illegal and killing shipwrecked individuals after those dubious strikes is undoubtedly illegal. This is why he had to go outside the Pentagon to get some lawyer in the White House to give him top cover on this stuff. Of course, Hegseth wants to get rid of these JAGs (he already has fired several) so he can do what he wants to do.

Hegseth orders ‘ruthless’ review of JAGs. Some see an attempt to evade accountability - Defense One

Here's what Trump wrote on "Truth" Social last week: "The United Kingdom, our once Great Ally, maybe the Greatest of them all, is finally giving serious thought to sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East.  That’s OK, Prime Minister Starmer, we don’t need them any longer – But we will remember. We don’t need people that join Wars after we’ve already won!”

Trump is now asking the UK (and other countries) to send ships to help keep the Strait open.

He just can't help himself.  What a clown.
