This is true
If it were up to me, and surprisingly it isn't, the Democrats would sign on to the clean CR. I generally don't care about political concerns, hence I am not a politician. If I were, I probably would care that the core of the Democratic Party wants to see some effort to slow the "hard to starboard" being conducted. For me, keeping the lights on is the chief responsibility.
If I were to try to convince them politically, sign the CR. If the GOP allows the enhanced benefits to lapse, the Democrats will dominate the midterm elections in numbers that all the godforesaken redistricting won't matter. Isn't there an old saying to never interfere when your opponent wants to self-destruct?

Too bad about all those losing their coverage. Collateral damage, I suppose.

True, and that is a problem. But if the Republicans get 2 more years owning all branches you don't think those people are going to be injured by all sorts of similar policies?

No one wins either way. Even if the Dems take back Congress, they can't stop Trump from acting as long as the Supremes give him a blank check. It will take a generation or more to recover from what Trump has wrought, if ever. I despair for our country.
@unclemark what has he wrought? Specifically? That could possibly be worse than gas inflation crime open borders climate zealotry trannies depriving citizens of a chance to vote on and on and on.
your words are literally true re Biden. On our elevated insane prices. Border. Etc.
Most people don’t give a shit about ice. Rfk jr shit. Hurty words to the press. Or Hollywood pricks like Kimmel. bubble people who are dumber than shit.
trunp’s shutdown subsidy political problem will come to fruition in the next two months during open enrollment. When these dogshit absurd premiums astronomical deductibles go up again!!! That will be a problem for Trump and republicans. Bc while he may have tempered inflation prices for groceries houses etc are sky high. Voters aren’t going to like the taste of health insurance up again on top of it. If Trump wants to help the party he better figure out a way to make something cheaper. And fast

Recovery was impossible years ago. The four-year interregnum that was the Biden admin was simply a pause, and it wasn't really a pause, because the real problems were still there and kept getting worse.
I do think it's time for us to stop talking about what Trump wrought, however, and start putting the blame where it belongs: his supporters. If democracy dies in America, it won't be because Trump killed it; it will be because his voters did.

Trump and the GOP would be idiots to fold (which means they probably will). Adding another 1 to 1.5 trillion to the deficit and forcing taxpayers to pay even more for Obamacare isn't going to help lower inflation or healthcare prices for 90+% of the population. Also, the premiums would just drop to 2019 levels as a percentage. People on Obamacare would still be getting 80% covered.

@spartans9312 according to the chart and Democrats demands of an additional 1 trillion over 10 years. Is Obamacare costing taxpayers close to a trillion a year now? That seems like too much.
@snarlcakes it has definitely gone up considerably since Obamacare. It’s hard to generalize this period coming up bc there are so many variables. Different plans. Carriers. State differences. But let’s guess 20 mil are on subsidized marketplace plans. Who then aren’t subsidized. Then bc the cost of care is outpacing inflation wages etc those who are on unsubsidized plans also see an increase on top of what is already expensive insurance. You’ve got a shit ton of angry folks. Tens of millions. Then bc cost of care blah blah employer based plans also go up. Well now you have yet another burden facing avg joe voter. And they won’t care about the debt. 30 trillion. 35 trillion. What’s the fucking difference they’ll say. And threat to democracy. Good grief no one cared one iota about that last time and certainly won’t again.
groceries
healthcare.
health insurance.
gas.
then if the economy stalls. Tariff prices creep kicks in. 2026 could be ugly for pubs as long as Dems don’t push socialism lunatics or the nut bag lady in calif who was on bill maher saying her 12 year old was crying over what if some day she needs an abortion insanity
@mcm666 I agree nobody gives a shit about the deficit. My point is Obamacare helps 20 million people at the expense of everyone else. Those people might be happier, but spending another trillion on Obamacare isn't going to benefit the other 300+ million people.
@snarlcakes leaving aside spreading risk costs blah blah I believe it’s what people/voters that is to say the ones doing the subsidizing are already conditioned and won’t really think too much of it whereas 20 million experiencing 100 percent plus price increases will link it directly to republicans and it’ll end up being bad politics. Right thing to do. Wrong thing to do. Different calculus. I’m taking perception and votes. I think bad for our side
@mcm666 that's fair. I just think the calculus works out different. I'll still vote for the GOP, but if they cave it makes me want to stay home.
Seems like a lot. It’s another one of those things that needs to show up on each taxpayers statement. This is how much you paid towards other people’s premiums. This is how much your premium went up with the start of ACA passage.
