Good point, access to witch doctors and leaches would be a lot cheaper. But if one wants a doctor, which takes 11 years or more of school and residency, MRI machines (close to $1 million new), and medicine (average cost to bring to market, 1.3 billion), it would be tough to afford without sharing the risk.

The US leads the world in pharmaceutical development, too.@co-hoosier I think the main issue with health care in this country is that the people who make a ton of money off a irrevocably broken system will fight tooth and nail to keep the relative status quo.

Political expedience is, more so now than ever, the default setting for our elected officials and this knows no geographic, party or level (local, state or federal) bounds. It is all encompassing.
