We were told…
- The tariffs would make America rich. Didn’t happen.
- The tariffs would revive American manufacturing and create jobs. Massive job losses instead, higher unemployment.
- The tariffs would be great for American farmers. They are going bankrupt at higher rates, markets have been destroyed, and they are in line for an expensive / massive bailout, mostly because last year China bought $18,000,000,000 in soybeans and Trump reduced that to $00,000,000,000.
- DOGE would save hundreds of billions of dollars, maybe even sending you a check. Didn’t happen. Even Trump apparently now regards DOGE as a scam.
- The deficit spending would stop. Lie, $2 trillion this year.
- We just can’t afford health care reform for US citizens. Wait, Argentina’s corporate fat cats want $20B? No problem! Those billionaires keep calling for tax cuts… OK, they are great donors… no problem!

seriously, the guy was looking for another sword or something else to gift, but that one was off limits for legal reasons: it is apparently against an existing statute to gift an artifact that had been accepted as a donation to a public archive.

Without reading it, I bet the guy reminded the President that the sword belonged to the American people, not the President.
I read about it the other day. Evidently it was Melania who insisted on giving the sword as a gift, and pitched a fit when she was told no. They eventually gave him a replica, but the museum head involved in the fighting decided it just wasn't worth it anymore and bailed.
