As a self-made stay-at-home Carmel wife I've designed my future around financial comfort. Well, at least by Indiana standards. At coffee this morning Elon Musk came up. And yes. Ladies don't only talk about our kids and sales. He is now worth $700 billion dollars. That figure would place him in the top 25 of GDP world-wide. This seems new but really isn't as Rockefeller and others had similar wealth when adjusted. But Rockefeller was an oil man. Making the fuel to propel the growth of our country. Musk is into AI. Telling us that at some point in our generation, or at least our childrens', work will be optional. We will all just have money. This presupposes we will all be on "welfare," though not in the traditional sense.
It is crazy to imagine. And how will that work? Will his $700 billion be confiscated and doled out by dumb people like Walz and AOC? Will it be "stolen" by grifters like Trump to where he'll be like a Putin-type? It seems technology is pushing us to a place where our world will be very different and we aren't really planning for it or as Goldblum said in Jurassic Park paraphrasing whether we should be doing this AI stuff. One of the leading country songs was written by AI. It's coming for us.... Thoughts? There has to be something to this website beyond Left Right sucks.
Im firmly in the camp of AI is overblown and can never replace the human mind. Recently I listened to a pretty smart podcaster suggesting the human mind is like a computer and we are getting closer and closer to replicating it. No we aren’t!
The human mind is all what the most elaborate large language model can muster + spontaneity and imagination. Two vital aspects of “thinking” that AI can never replicate Everything in LLM activity is the direct or indirect of human programming and sources.
Don’t have time to give your post the attention it deserves. These couple of paragraphs are just for openers. More later.

@co-hoosier What is LLM? Coach Cig gave a speech recently about freedom of choice and consequences and habits. It was just a couple of sentences but was outstanding. So much of what drives us, gives us purpose, would seem lost with AI. So I hope you are right. I don't believe it is a good thing.
Large Language Model. It’s an attempted description of how a high speed data crunching AI system works. This might help.

Ask @bradstevens about freedom of choice.

Most people don't like their jobs or find much purpose doing it. I think it's a good thing forced labor (in the sense of needing money to pay the bills) will go away.
AI like any tool it will change how we live. Some people will use it to their benefit and some to their detriment.
@snarlcakes Let's open addiction centers! Those things will be thriving.
Dissatisfaction is a choice. People need to change what is between their ears. AI will destroy people who can’t do that.

How rich would Musk be without all the government contracts and subsidies?
@unclemark What’s your point? Does it matter? Rockefeller benefited via railroad/land grants etc. I don’t mean this as attacking you. Maybe it does matter. Maybe they owe us. The taxpayer. Is paying taxes a satisfactory return? I don’t know. Rockefeller fueled our growth. I’m not certain what Musk is doing with Ai is actually benefiting us in a similar fashion.
There will be a small elite class who own everything and make all the decisions, and the vast majority of people will simply be given whatever they need to live comfortably enough to not rock the boat. It will be like Star Trek, but we'll all be redshirts, and only Musk and his cronies will be Kirks.
@goat I don’t watch Star Trek. I don’t know how you put members at Meridian Hills in the same pot with folks struggling in East Chicago. To me that process could lead to a civil war, whatever such a thing would look like in modern times.
@sharinincarmel Goddammit can you decide once and for all how to spell your fucking name?
@goat I do volunteer work in and around Carmel. Hence Sharin, as in sharing.
