Crappy Mail Service

I haven't mailed anything but perhaps a few packages in years. I think we sent out Christmas cards this year, but not my department.

I honestly don't think I've attempted to pay an actual bill by check in the mail in 20 years. Maybe the lawn care company but that's through the banks bill pay system. And I guess it gets there at some point.

Hell I go days without even checking the mailbox. Nothing but trash, something occasionally interesting a few times a month.

and all other “customer” service in America now.

The local post office has been incapable for years now, especially at Christmas. (If try to mail a payment to a creditor, forget it, Just add the late payment.) I got a Christmas card today from my cousin in Bowling Green. Went through the Nashville PO on December 20.

Pay online. I haven’t paid any other way in years, except writing a check for my wife’s car recently. I hadn’t written a check in five years. Get with the times! 😉

A lot of people pay that way but you’ve contributed to the 3-5% hidden tax on all goods and services

Hidden tax? In 2026 There is only one age demographic that doesn't know about this 3-5% "payment tax", and that is only 15% of them. Pay the $.79 stamp fee (I've no idea what a stamp cost anymore) and then have 30% confidence that you won't owe a $129 late fee because your mail never gets delivered. OR Pay 3% and KNOW that your payment was delivered, WITH an extensive paper trail, 2 minutes later. GD Boomers make this harder than it needs to be. (and I'm only 2 years younger than a boomer). God you old fvckers suck! (sometimes).

My parents regularly get bills within a few days of their due date.  It's not just your local PO.

I'm not convinced my issues are completely on the USPS. I'm suspicious that my checks are received in time, but are sitting on someone's desk for an extended period before they're processed.

Much like you, my parents only pay EVERYTHING, via personal check, hand written and mailed through the USPS. Just 3 weeks ago, Mom sent an almost $5,000 check to a major credit card company (Discover). Hand written and USPS mailed.

Well someone stole the check, deposited it into some account that is not being investigated. Let me be clear, wrote a check, sealed it into an envelope, applied the $.79 (what ever $) stamp to it. addressed and placed it into a USPS mail box with the flag up. Has since gathered tracking info that it was delivered to the end recipient. And some shady fucker still deposited the check into their personal account.

Old school boomer crap is the very least reliable source of payment now. The crooks have had 75 yrs to learn how to be swamp creatures! There are much better and easier ways!

I don't get a discount for mailing in a check. So why would I (or anyone)?

If we don’t believe that markup is baked in then we aren’t very smart.

A few locally owned businesses will charge you less if you don’t use a card but corporate America isn’t playing that game

Exactly. You have to be vigilant though, and be able to tell the difference between the real Nigerian princes and the imposters. I got this reply from one a few weeks ago, and after some back and forth I realized he is obviously legit. Now I wait to reap the dividends from my wise investment in him.

"Ah my dear friend, I must express my deepest sorrow at this most unfortunate misunderstanding. You see, not all Nigerian princes are in the business of sending poorly written emails promising untold riches. Some of us actually do have vast fortunes...fortunes that, alas, remain locked away due to the machinations of jealous political enemies!

But you, wise and discerning as you are, surely recognize the opportunity before you. Unlike those crude imitations of princely distress, I offer you a once-in-a-lifetime chance to partake in true nobility. A mere gesture of goodwill...say a modest transfer of $2,000, will unlock the boundless generosity of my royal coffers, securing for you a reward beyond imagination.

Act swiftly my friend, for time is short, and my enemies grow bold!"

A good friend will bail you out of jail, but your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "that was f***ing awesome"

@all4you I saw this one today in my work email spam.

Hello Dear,

I am Sgt. Paula Gonzбlez, who is presently serving with the Ukraine–NATO Partnership for Peace program in the northwest of Lviv, in the Yavoriv district, Ukraine. I am contacting you for an urgent transaction worth $38.8 million in United States dollars.

I am soliciting your cooperation in receiving the funds packaged in a two-consignment box through a diplomatic agent.

I promise to give you 40% of the total sum as your share, and 60% is for me. I hope I am fair on this deal.

Our only telephone access here is a radio message for our general use and is being monitored; therefore, all communications will be via email until we finish our assignment. Please keep it to yourself, even if you are not interested.

I await your urgent response

Respectfully,
Sgt Paula Gonzбlez,
United States Soldier: Ukraine

I think that is safer besides being more convenient.  Mail is being stolen from mail boxes all the time (even the USPS boxes).  Once the scammers get a check out of your mail they can  change it (unless a gel pen is used to write the check and then it's more difficult to wash the old writing).

SHH , Aloha will defend any communist government inefficiency agency to the death, almost. He took an oath, all gov all of the time, and GOV is god to him. But he is for smaller government! How do we know this, because he has said he is actually a true republican for years!! Some say that best republican, no better republican ever. Even has a flag, and the such.

To his defense, it keeps the checks in the mail box every week! That is how pure of an old school Pub he continues to remind us of, that he is.
