Part of this is how bloated all these shows became. Truth is, most people will tune in to see a star they like being interviewed in an interesting way. That doesn’t require a giant band or expensive theater or 100s of employees. With a good interviewer, all you need is two or three cameras, two chairs, and a guest or two. Old people don't stay up late. lol I'm old and watch plenty TV between 10-midnight Central Time including some prime time network TV series. Resident Alien = Funny. Colbert and Kimmell. Not!!! I use Tablo app on Roku to record any network TV shows to be able to FF thru the commercials. It is free with a TV antenna. You do need purchase a Tablo device.

@bradstevens I gave this a listen yesterday. If anything it was interesting. I do agree late night tv is a dying breed. I can’t tell you if they cut the show over money, politics or both. I can however tell you I’ve asked my kids and none of them watch any of the shows. They do however catch some clips of Colbert on YouTube. They also report their peers don’t watch these shows either. They’re all to busy watching shit like Love Island.
