@snarlcakes what will driverless trucks mean for jobs? Seriously, truck driving jobs are serious middle class jobs for people who don't want to go to college and become an accountant.
And very soon there won't even be humans building them.
@arthur-dent i hate ai. Bosnians that come to Stl all become truckers. Then they buy 3 or 4 and make big bucks and employ more.
honestly i hate AI. Tech. Etc. Of course it has improved lives in so many ways but tech/science has also made it much worse. No way my kids had as much fun as I when I was little. Work sucks. You never get a break bc people message nonstop.
we will eventually go to gbi. And be rudderless. People won’t create. They’ll became sloths. Pigs. And addicts for the most part. Birth rates will skyrocket tho.
our leaders are garbage. Our gov doesn’t rely work. There are no guardrails. Fauci didn’t even know what he was funding. Gain of function. Science creeps. Musk. Has anyone said hey Elon. Love what you’re doing for shareholders. Love your success. Keep innovating. But we need to get a better idea if this AI is a good idea
@arthur-dent Albanians? We have Bosnians. They grind their asses off. Hustlers. Big time. They’ll put that wife in a factory on a conveyor belt while the husband drives a truck and invests in a bakery and a bar. A 40 yr old looks 60. All hopped up on nicotine going a million miles an hour.
That’s why when we’re so afraid of labels and being pc and woke we’ve become afraid to talk for fear of being labeled. All cultures aren’t the same. Some immigrants are more desirable than others. That’s just reality
@mcm666 Bosnians, at the women's game so mistakes happen. What happened to judging people by their individual merits and not as a member of a group? Hasn't that been the rallying cry?
@arthur-dent they’re soccer players. Individually and as a group. Contributors. Not takers
@arthur-dent they’re soccer players. Individually and as a group. Contributors. Not takers
Soccer players?

@arthur-dent I am not worried about exponential growth. I think we work less and have higher living standards.
I don't believe this btw. My content is too unique to be done by AI.
but you can’t have winners without losers. It just doesn’t work. No one wins the Super Bowl by beating nobody. Another team has to lose. If you’re going to get rich, someone else had to not get rich to make it possible. That’s just how the zero-sum game works.
No!
First of all the Super Bowl is a competition for a single trophy. There can be only a single winner. That is not how capitalism works. Your analogy doesn’t hold up.
Wealth is not a set sum to be divided up among competitors. Wealth is created by those who have the knowledge, fortitude, ambition, etc. to get off of their butt and create something. That something is usually your own talent stack. Yeah, capitalism has winners and losers, and they are not always the same people. Individuals can be either or both. Wasniac and Jobs didn’t become gazilionaires by making others poor.
Take practicing law. The “home run” @bradstevens and @mcm666 talked about is not about knocking down a million dollar fee in my view. The home run is having confidence, ability, experience, reputation, etc. to know you can make a living now and in the future and then be able to retire. This doesn’t only apply to practicing law. Blue collar, white collar, and lace collars can do the same. Right now, trades are screaming for workers and the shortage is worsening. You don’t get those things by taking them from others.
The economy is more complicated than football, I'll grant you that. But it's still zero-sum. We can't all be rich. If we were all rich, then none of us would be.
This might change after AI takes over, but that will require a whole shit ton of that dreaded socialism you all hate.
The algorithm logic for you is simple:I don't believe this btw. My content is too unique to be done by AI.
Is this false and for a MAGA dupe?
If yes, feed it to dbm.
Good. Synopsis.Everybody here is being coy.@dbmhoosier and who exactly make us diverse? Is it Germans and English living in the same country? Maybe the Asians? Who makes us diverse creating the problem
My DNA test is almost entirely Scotch-Irish and English. Would I be better off if I tossed out the Germans, French, Italians, Poles?
The third world. There, now that's it out there are we actually going to talk about it? As an American Mutt myself, I believe diversity is a core component of America, b/c America is an ideal/idea. It's engrained in our DNA.
I really wish we could have this conversation without calling each other names. Marv, it's a fact that importing enormous numbers of low skilled, poorly educated immigrants causes significant strain to the social service/safety nets in place. Let alone schools which have ESL (or third language) students. Wage depression is a thing. It's just economics.
Our immigration system is broken, yet we need immigration due to declining birth rates and AGAIN - we are America, the poem on the statue of the lady in the harbor should mean sometihng.
I do think it’s fair to question the wisdom of allowing immigration from conflicting cultures.
I don’t know the drawing line and don’t subscribe to the worst generalizations, but am uncomfortable with immigrants who come to America and wave their own national origin flags and burn the American one.
But it’s still zero-sum.
The economy can’t be zero sum so long as human intelligence, ambition, and enthusiasm is not zero sum.
We can’t all be rich.
Depends how you define rich. But we all can be richer than we are, baring external factors like disability, prejudice, etc.
This might change after AI takes over,
AI ain’t taking over unless and until they solve the hallucination problem. It is a,ready causing considerable embarrassment in law. Human beings are still the most energy efficient way to do most tasks, it beats AI-driven robots by a long way.
