So many near misses prior to this. Thankfully they've shut down military helicopter flights near Reagan. This was such an awful tragedy for all involved.
I've flown into and out of DCA several times (although not since this disaster) and the landings there, at least in my experience, are like no other. Because of all the restricted air space, it's a crazy, zig-zag approach. Almost has the feel of an amusement park ride. I like that sensation only at amusement parks.
Flew into Reagan about every other month for the last few years before I retired, including after that incident. Don’t remember it being too eventful. The airport has improved since COVID.It was an accident waiting to happen for years.

I don't think visual separation shuold be allowe there. The ATC could easily have told him to hold until the airplane was past. He told him to go behind at the last moment.It was an accident waiting to happen for years.
