Thanks @irregulars for reading! It was fun to research this team. Definitely think we have promise, and there are certainly no shortage of storylines to follow among our glut of high upside sophomores. Excited to see where this team lands!

Go IU!!!

IU gets swept by North Carolina and loses the third game in embarrassing fashion. They were up 3-1 in the bottom of the 9th. With two outs, the UNC batter hits a ground ball to the second baseman who completely botches a standard throw to first that would have ended the game. Two runs score and IU ends up losing in the tenth inning.

IU athletics outside of football is decidedly mediocre. That is not a sign of a well run athletics department.

@iugradman Softball has made the CWS two years in a row, soccer was No. 1 in the country at one point, IUBB is trending to being in the NCAA tournament, swimming and diving is great, Volleyball went to the Sweet 16, rowing and water polo are nationally ranked…

Baseball has fallen from where they were and I believe they need to re-evaluate their program and women’s hoops fell off a cliff.

I don’t get your hate of the athletic department at this time.

@iugradman The usual ridiculous take on anything IU athletics.  The first series of the year and the world is ending.

Men’s basketball has made two of the last eight NCAA tournaments. Women’s basketball is bad. Volleyball had its first good season in 15 years. Men’s soccer went one and done in the NCAA tournament. Softball never advanced out of the first round the last three seasons. Baseball is mediocre and has fallen off since Smith and Lemonis.

Curt Cignetti carries this entire athletics department. IU needs to hire a personal trainer and physician for him.

Baseball is disappointing. The current regime has lost whatever goodwill they ever generated. Time for a serious change, but I’m afraid basketball will get everyone’s angst and baseball will fly under the radar. Seems like that’s already happened the last couple years.

@bucketgetter Baseball is very disappointing. They are too talented to be this bad. There’s plenty of time to turn it around this year, however Mercer lost me when he punted that regional game to UK.

I get the disadvantages of being a northern team, but they make too many mistakes.

Too early for all of the negativity I've seen online already.  And this is coming from someone who kind of boycotted* going to games last season, despite having reserved season tickets.

*It was more than just the performance, it was also weather and other conflicts of time.

@gros-louis I am sorry if I am being too negative. There is plenty of season left, but this goes back a couple seasons for me. Mercer was dubbed the "Brad Stevens" of college baseball and his teams constantly can't do the little things correctly. He punted a game where he could've clinched a regional win to the Super Regional. He's been at IU since 2019 and while he's had some decent teams and some GREAT talent, he may be on his last legs if this new pitching coach can't get the staff together.

Is playing baseball in the north (especially this year) more difficult than playing in the south? Yes, but these issues happen later in the season to. I am done with the cold weather excuse. While it can affect hitting, judging fly balls and lights it shouldn't have this affect year over year all through the year.

They play on turf, they use the field in Mellencamp in the cold. Fielding and throwing ground balls should not be an issue. Throwing strikes, should not be an issue. Base running should not be an issue.
