Data Points: Insights To Be Gained From Puerto Rico Trip - Hoosier Huddle
Please note, NO definitive conclusions can be made from these three exhibition games in August. That written, there will be some things worth getting points of data on.
This is awesome TJ - thank you! Can't wait to see the squad in action.
Check out my latest at Hoosier Huddle here
@evanalvarez8 Unless you're going, not sure we'll end up being able to see much of it? This day and age, that seems absurd, to me. But haven't yet heard of any streams or anything.
And yes, awesome write up TJ. If I were able to watch it, it would be much more about trying to see some foundational things like ball and player movement, where it looks like they're going to force people defensively, how they rotate defensively, etc...
@iunorth Unfortunately, no one from Hoosier Huddle will be in Puerto Rico. You are correct, there will be no streaming availability. My understanding is that the restriction on that is a Big Ten rule. I won't even pretend to understand why that would be the case but that's what I read. As far as coverage goes, we'll do our best to provide what we can but it certainly won't be indicative of how we plan to cover the actual season.
@tjinman1987 unfathomable to me that IU wouldn't be allowed to stream, or record and offer via Youtube, the games. They'll be "taping" them, obviously. And if there is some sort of B10 rule, send someone from the B10 with a Gimbal and an Iphone to get the coverage. Better yet one of those Xbot Go's, and charge $10 to watch. They might be able to pay for the travel expenses of whoever went.
@tjinman1987 you missed the best sorta stream in IU history at the Bahamas a few years back. Got me an IU media pass and Cavanagh’s corner began(had a good year run lol)! . Good Ol JD Campbell called me freaking out that I had posted the game on YouTube. Said take it down now!! I said I don’t work for you piss off. Then he changed his tune real quick and we became friends haha.
@cavanagh I'm getting more mad about this the more I think of it. Someone from IU or the B10 could very easily just setup an Xbot Go, link it to a paywall site, and all it takes is a person sitting near it making sure its charged, and turned on and off at beginning and end of game. Send out a link to that site on B10 networks social media pages, and/or IU's social media pages, and you're set. They could just assign one of the managers on the IU team to do it or something, wouldn't even have to pay someone from the B10 to go on the trip.
I hate laziness. That's the only explanation for this one. Assuming something like I mentioned above isn't already in the works, and we just don't know about it yet.
It's pretty dumb to have have the team (that is brand new and everyone wants to see) with the largest fanbase in the conference playing in PR and no way to watch it. What is BTN+ for? Or any basic streaming option. People will pay $10-20 and this would be a moneymaker.
@tammany Agreed. I can understand not sending a full production crew. And I guess maybe the B10 doesn't want to put out a low quality stream, with its name attached to it? But the technology these days makes this VERY simple, and very affordable. I'd probably pay 10-20 bucks to watch all 3 games, from a non audio live stream. I'm sure many others would as well.
But, how about some forward thinking on their part, and doing a "hard knocks" type of production for the July practices, and then their time in Puerto Rico? And include a live stream, and have people promote the future release of the hard knocks episodes, or something like that...
The apathy and laziness on things like this drive me nuts. Marketing people at B10, if they're blocking IU from doing something like this, should be ashamed of themselves. And if they're not blocking it, and IU isn't doing something, they should be ashamed of themselves.
I feel bad when I don't at least facebook live some of my kids sports events for their grandparents/relatives that can't make it.

you don’t think it’s possibly due to media rights?
Some IU media will be down there and we’ll have their reports we can use to jump to conclusions on this new program. 😉
@gerdis Could be. And obviously its not a huge deal. Its just lazy for whoever owns the rights, to not have someone down there with some sort of streaming option.
@tammany For sure. I'm pissed I won't get the opportunity to FULLY jump to conclusions, though.
Last year some fans got overly excited about the pre-season practice win over Tennessee and the "stars" that were added to roster from the portal. Expectations should be tempered until the team gets 10 to 12 regular games under its belt.
@bigmike Nope... we'll get everything we need from the 2nd hand reporting, and the box scores.
