Full article on the home page...IU will host eight home games with highlights including Kansas State on November 25. Of course, they have a trio of very tough games away from home with Marquette in Chicago, Louisville at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and Kentucky at Rupp Arena on December 13.
Great marquee matchups! Wonder what types of lower level teams most of those home games are? Hopefully not many that are 300+ in all the metrics.
@iunorth a good question...I started looking that up this morning. Posting results on that here in a minute.
It's impossible to accurately project the eventual NET or KenPom or T-Rank for these teams with so much roster churn but we have to work with the data we currently have.
IU's non-conference opponents are projected as follows by Bart Torvik:
Alabama A&M - 309
Marquette (in Chicago) - 49 (I'd say this ends up a Quad One on Selection Sunday)
Milwaukee - 238
Incarnate Word - 197
Lindenwood - 294
Kansas State - 47 (possibly a Q1 given how tough the Big 12 is but likely a Q2)
Bethune-Cookman - 185
Louisville (in Indianapolis) - 16 (almost certainly a Q1)
at Kentucky - 13 (Q1)
Chicago State - 323 (almost certainly a Q4)
Siena - 157
In total, there are only two games that are almost certainly going to be 300+ opponents: Alabama A&M and Chicago State. Marquette, Louisville, Kansas State and Kentucky should all end up top 50 and beneficial for the resume. Incarnate Word, Bethune-Cookman and Siena all have the potential to win their leagues and could be mildly beneficial and certainly won't anchor IU's numbers unless they lose to them. Lindenwood, Alabama A&M and Chicago State are games you'd prefer to see a bit stronger opposition but it won't matter given the toughness of the rest of the non-con plus the Big Ten for 20 games.
I love that we're playing Incarnate Word. That's a name that always make me think of east coast point shaving scandals in the 50s. I know it doesn't make sense since they're in Texas and have only been around since the 80s, but that's the vibe I get.

That vibe still works with the Texas ties. Look at SMU and the death sentence they were given back in '87 for recruiting and payment violations. No football in '87 and the school self-imposed foregoing the '88 season as well. Destroyed their program for decades. Hmmmmm...I love that we're playing Incarnate Word. @hooky I believe Incarnate Word was Grant Gelon's only offer before Crean offered him.

We had a grand total of what, 2 top 60ish non-con games last year (KenPom), both of which were massacre losses.
Definitely a big step in the right direction.
@tjinman1987 thanks for the good work
While I regarded God as a tyrant I thought my sin a trifle; But when I knew Him to be my Father, then I mourned that I could ever have kicked against Him. When I thought God was hard, I found it easy to sin; but when I found God so kind, so good, so overflowing with compassion, I smote upon my breast to think that I could ever have rebelled against One who loved me so, and sought my good.” C. H. Spurgeon

Why isn't that a surprise? I would have also believed Tim Priller.
