Identical for now. IU may very well fare better this season, but I think you'll see a noticable difference in the programs in a few years. I'm confident BM is a program builder; I don't think DD has the coaching chops to be the same. Oh well, we'll know in due time.Iowa needs this win as much as we do. Especially after they lose to Purdue tonight. Not saying we can't win but I'm not hopeful given the circumstances. We likely will be out coached again
Team results are basically identical between IU/Iowa.
0 Q1 wins
0 marquee pre-con wins
Loss @ Minn.
Home loss to top ~10 team (Illinois/Neb)
20 point blowout loss on road at MSU.
We'll see, but right now, he's done nothing to separate himself. If DDV needs to be fired mid-season for identical results to McCollum then how can we act like McCollum is doing something special?
Its like I've said from the beginning, I don't care if 1 is better than the other if both end up being busts. Its Archie/Holtmann all over again.

I do not give a rats ass about McCollum or Iowa. They are of no concern to me.
Purdue 79 / Iowa 72 but the game was tied at 64 with 4:50 left. Hawkeyes played tough but the Purdue bench came up big. Through 1/13, IU has a NET of 36 while Iowa is at 21. KenPom through the 14th has Iowa at 20 and IU 33. After the Iowa game the Hoosiers play at Michigan 1/20, then Rutgers 1/23, Purdue at home 1/27 and then go on the road for games against USC and UCLA. They probably need to take 4 out of 6 and play Michigan and Purdue competitively to be in NCAA tourney consideration talk. All games are important but Iowa at home is a must win.
Kenpom numbers suggest the problem is defense. The offense is way ahead of anything Woodson did, even though Woodson had better talent. The defense is worse though.
The good news is our worst defenders are probably graduating, so we should be able to recruit some quicker feet and better rebounders next year. The bad news is that it seems like part of the issue is depth, and thats harder to get in the portal, because high end dudes don't want 15 mins a game off the bench.
Hopefully it's fixable. Dorn's return does make us look like a bubble team, but obviously most were hoping for better.

Given the game at michigan will be a loss the Iowa game is a must win.
IU will most certainly be outcoached, but Iowa isn't exactly fleet of foot so it's a good matchup for the sloth-like Hoosiers.Iowa needs this win as much as we do. Hey..........we may be slow but we're short.

I was looking at the HSN site and holy unicorns and rainbows. Its the same old excuses we have seen over and over again for the last few coaches we hired.
1. Its only his first year. Danny Hurley did not start out strong either.
2. He had to scramble to put a roster together. This spring will be much better and on and on.
The same excuse train I saw with woodson and archie . So me its laughable when people claim the expectations here are too high when I see fans bending over backwards to make excuses for a coach that put a mid major roster together. But I guess this spring he will suddenly work his magic with the portal. Call me very skeptical.

I'm with you Same bill of goods as the last 20 years
@arioznahoosier4554 Skeptical is fair. I was skeptical of Cignetti at the start of last season. He quickly demonstrated that he could back up his talk.
It's even fair to think Devries is the wrong guy for IU, everyone can have an opinion But I don't think it's at all likely that he would be fired after one season. He's our coach for at least another season, likely two more. I'm hoping that he underestimated what kind of horses he'd need in the B1G (which itself is a little worrying) or how quickly his players would acclimate but that's correctable. So we'll have to wait and see....
DeVries will get at least three years; I have no doubt about that. But, in the not too distant future, I see him coaching at a place like Bellarmine.

Of course he will and that is the problem with every single hire we make they all get at least three to four years even if we know they will not cut it. Rinse and repeat

I don't think any of this is set in stone especially since its been a different AD (and usually president) during every one of the past firings. Davis got 6, Crean got 9.
Archie was coaching in the middle of a pandemic with huge revenue losses across the university. There's not much chance he could/would have been let go sooner. Many were arguing there was 0 chance he'd be let go after 4 years coming out of covid and it being Dolson's first year as AD, yet he fired him anyways. Bigfoot was a forced 4 years, not some kind of IU standard.
It will come down to cost and upside on moving on. Right now it'd cost 30+ million for a regime change at best, 1 year removed from already doing it.
Well, we finally cracked a Q1 win. Now 1-6.
Worst loss is still Q2 @ Minn.
NET: 33
KP: 30
Torvik: 22
KP projects 10-10
Torvik projects 11-9
KP has us loosing both LA games, while Torvik has us slightly winning them.
There are only 2 remaining "bad" games left on the schedule with NW and Oregon at home. Both would be Q3 (although they'd likely bump up to Q2 by end of the year). Can't really afford to lose either of those.
