@arioznahoosier4554 I hate the inconsistency in effort and focus... but there are likely hidden foundational things I'm missing, since the metrics are so strong. I spent a lot of time advocating for Archie, though, because he was improving our efficiency metrics his first couple years. This time, we're gonna need to win games, win games on the road... basically prove it. Because we're pretty far from being the 16th best basketball team in the country, right now, like a couple of the key metrics say we are.
@gthomas Well, the last IU coach to have a winning conference record in year 1 was Sampson as insane as that is.

Still no Q1 wins.
Obviously, Iowa on Saturday is literally must-win at this point. Both teams likely coming off losing streaks, as well.

Numbers like these are why I think the analytics are dumb AF. This team is NOT GOOD.
IU seems to be locked into a fairly tight year over year range (for the most part).
nothing so far this season leads me to think this team is much different than (most) any of the recent teams.
Current KP 36
2025 45
2024. 91 (is this an outlier?)
2023. 30

I do not really pay attention to these numbers or really understand them. All I know is our best win is kansas state who is 0-3 in conference at 8-8 overall. Next best win I guess in Marquette who is 6-12. This is why I have no faith in this team going 10-10 in the conference all are wins are vs bad teams.

you know what, as it pertains to this team you don't need to understand these. Your eyes tell you all you need to know

That is how I look at it. We were fooled early on in the season thinking Kansas State and Marquette were good wins. In reality both of those teams are not very good.

The best win is over Washington by far. They're 30 points higher in the metrics than KSU.
Iowa needs this win as much as we do. Especially after they lose to Purdue tonight. Not saying we can't win but I'm not hopeful given the circumstances. We likely will be out coached again
At least we get to see the two 'great hires' from last year go head to head.
I remember last year bummed we didn't get May because we went with Woodson another year. Another school I thought did very well the May year, was Vanderbilt with Byington. He didn't have some stellar record but I liked what he said and how his team played. They are 16-0 his second year so far at Vandy . So now I'm bummed on him too... But, Vandy did say NIL for basketball was going to go way up for him, and they started a big facility upgrade for basketball. So maybe he'd have not done much here if we skimped on NIL. He had to get 6-9 players from the portal each year just like us though. I guess we needed more.
IU will most certainly be outcoached, but Iowa isn't exactly fleet of foot so it's a good matchup for the sloth-like Hoosiers.Iowa needs this win as much as we do. Team results are basically identical between IU/Iowa.
0 Q1 wins
0 marquee pre-con wins
Loss @ Minn.
Home loss to top ~10 team (Illinois/Neb)
20 point blowout loss on road at MSU.

And of course both programs with coaches who are ostensibly good but new to playing at this level. Might support the theory that they just didn't realize what sort of guns they needed to bring to this fight. Still find it sort of hard to believe but maybe.
Identical for now. IU may very well fare better this season, but I think you'll see a noticable difference in the programs in a few years. I'm confident BM is a program builder; I don't think DD has the coaching chops to be the same. Oh well, we'll know in due time.Iowa needs this win as much as we do.
