IU starts out at 11th. Very high starting point.
Yes. Saw that. Surprised we are that high given who we have/haven't played.
Metrics support that this version of IU basketball is LIGHT YEARS better than anything we've seen in the last 8 years. I'm not sure even at the best TJD/JHS times, we were that high.
Now... obviously these early NET rankings are skewed, and they'll adjust dramatically for a lot of teams as everyone gets in to their own conference schedules. But there have been quite a lot of quality early non conference games. The fact that IU hasn't played an elite team yet, and is still ranked as high as they are, means they shouldn't drop too far if they happen to lose to both LVille and Kentucky. If they split, I think they'll solidify themselves as a top 10-15 team. Obviously assuming they take care of business and beat the other teams we play in the same time frame...which is no given...winning at the Barn on Wednesday should never be any sort of given. But I think we "should" win that game.
Anyway... its always good to get data driven justification for beautiful, effective basketball.
@hoosiers94 yeah, its mainly nice to have a coach that understands you need to destroy the Q4 teams we play. We also have 20 point Q3 and Q2 wins.
Still its high, but we no longer have Woodson's terrible system as an anchor to the metrics.
It would be funny as hell to sweep this week's games and pass November Champs Purdue in the Net.

@d-b-cooper Ahhh...need to check my facts first. Didn't remember them ever being that high. I stand corrected.
Awful loss to Minn coupled with KSU losing again has dropped IU to 24th now.
IU's pre-Minnesota NET rating will be its highest all season. And the Hoosiers won't see the Top 25 again.
Metrics have bounced back after last night.

@surjay pretty shocking what killing teams does to these metrics. Woody crushed us in that area. Where we never lost to a team ranked as poorly as Minny in all of Woodys tenure, it is clear that it wasn't a killer by any means and if we go 10-10 I would assume we would be squarely on the bubble. 11-9 would get us in I think with the B1G being strong this year.
Not much of a dip after Saturday.

if this team goes 11-9 in the big ten that is a big overachieve imo given this roster and what we have in the front court.@surjay pretty shocking what killing teams does to these metrics.
