Any way you wanna slice and dice it finishing 10th in the Big Ten is a failure in year one. With the resources we spend and coaches salary finishing 10th is just unacceptable and scary for the future of his regime.

I think we will learn very quickly in April what kind of team we will have next year. without a major boost in NIL money I find it hard to believe that transfers will choose Indiana over similar offers and programs.

If we can somehow manage to beat Ohio State on the road and win a game or two in the Big Ten tournament to sneak in to the big dance, I will be at least moderately satisfied. My first love and true love will always be IU basketball. I can’t shake it. I tell you what though, CIGNATI makes things a whole lot easier to stomach.

@cavanagh I have to agree, finishing 10th in the regular season standings, and how we did it, is a failure.  I think postseason play is another variable, and another type of measurement, that he/they could redeem themselves a fair bit.  A strong BTT showing would help.  And if they happen to get in to the NCAA tournament, winning a game or two would help.  Some coaches are just good in tournament environments, and it'd be great to have evidence we have one of those types of coaches.

But for what we've seen thus far, regular season, overall its been disappointing.

I am fine with the coach we have. I expect big things in the future.

Yeah, we were not good his first year. Disappointing. Still, some chance to redeem the year if we win a couple more and make the post season.

But I had zoned out the last year of Miller, and the last two years of Woodson. Had enough of poor basketball. So as disturbing as many games were this year, I enjoyed the season more. We are no better, yet, but we are better off. Some or many teams in the big ten are about the same or worse than us, and they also have had more continuity.

Not blowing smoke to feel the Hoosiers will be back. Some disagree, and to each their own. We will see.

Yes, these guys had better show some serious recruiting chops quickly this off-season!

I'm doubting that.

First year results have been a bit weak. Is all I am convinced of.

When you are paying 5 million a year the excuse of he got started late just does not fly with me. There always seems to be an excuse for IU coaches but if you make top four money in the big ten there should be no excuses. It makes we wonder if we go like 21-12 next year and make the dance is that considered a success now at IU? It just seems to me we are always way overpaying for the results we get. But I guess maybe I expect too much.

I believe many would consider that some type of success: back in the NCAAT, 20+ wins, improvement over last season, etc.

As jaded as I am, I do think IU will improve, record-wise; I can't imagine the roster will be weaker next season. To the degree at which IU improves, who knows? But I'd go with your scenario if I had to make a prediction today.

If we see clear yearly improvment that will probably keep CDD off the hot seat. If he seems to reach a ceiling or be wildly up and down, then patience will run out at some point. Crean found out.

I think IU would have to implode for him to start Season 3 on the hot seat. Like 10-22. I see no world where he's not here at least four seasons; he'll do enough to keep his job. Plus, IU has a slow trigger.

@arioznahoosier4554 our ROI is shit.  I’d actually bet we are worse next year.  I see no reason why we are going to be better.  I don’t think we get anyone as good as Lamar and the coach has shown he is god awful at evaluating talent and fielding a team.  We are not an attractive destination and are a football school now.  We gonna ramp up NIL for this guy after the product he produced this year? Doubt it.

Being born in the state of Indiana and spending more years in Bloomington then I'd like to admit I am inflicted with a severe case of Hoosier Hysteria. It hurts to see IU mired in mediocrity. Looking at history, I do realize IU basketball has not been very good for many years.

Having said all, last spring my expectations for year one DeVries was a top 6 finish in the conference and winning one game in the NCAA tourney. I did have concerns that the roster was built with senior mid-major all stars. Looking back on the season, I'd say DeVries has equaled Woodson in the ability to construct a poor roster with another ho-hum 10th place conference finish. This coming April, he needs to re-tool the roster again.

Contrast the DeVries portal strategy to Dusty May. May will have Morez Johnson back for potentially 2 years and Cadieu and Andy Mara as seniors. Dusty has minimal portal work as he didn't simply load up the roster with seniors. Perhaps some Ryan Carr assistance will lead to better portal acquisitions. We can only hope!!!

@bigmike you and me both brother.  Btown is home and has been most of my life.  Need to get basketball going, I can’t stand mediocracy.   It should not be tolerated and there is a coach out there that can get us over the humpppp.  Sure as hell ain’t who we have now though.  Sad.
