@gthomas That's not what I said. I get that most would interpret it that way. But as a recap... they called an illegal screen on IU, in the first half, that wiped away a Tucker 3, that was an awful call. They then missed no less than 4, much more obvious illegal screens on Iowa, 2 of which led directly to Iowa 3s... and then one that they actually compounded by calling Conor for his 2nd foul, that sent him to the bench for the rest of the half, and gave Nebraska free throws. Then there was the ridiculous Tucker stretch in the 2nd half, that sent him to the bench with 4 fouls, while we were firmly in control of the game. Not asking for calls to go our way if they shouldn't, just that they're consistent, and even. If that had been the case, Tucker never goes to the bench, and the momentum at that time either doesn't switch at all, or takes quite a lot longer to switch back to Nebraska. If it doesn't switch at all, we might have won that game by 20+. If it does eventually switch back, we're much more likely to hold them off and win.
I enter in to these officiating posts knowing it sounds like whining, sour grapes. Yep. And IU's coaches and players, ultimately, are to blame for the loss. Its just a bummer, in Assembly Hall no less, that we had an officiating crew have that big of an impact against us.
Losing at home is never a good thing. It doesn't matter if it Nebraska or Purdue or IPFW. But on the positive side, this was yet another game that we showed for long stretches, that we can be a very good basketball team. Coach Weber went on and on about all the good things he sees with what's going on at IU. It IS there. Now... the inconsistencies are risking completely overshadowing all that good. I still hope, and do believe, that CDD will continue to move the needle forward, and we'll be an NCAA tournament, potentially 2nd weekend, level team by years end (barring any major injuries). But as I sit here today, there's no way to "know" that. And anyone that can't, or doesn't, acknowledge the bad things that have happened, and are happening... are just as jaded as the ones only posting the negative stuff. I guess I spend most of my time trying to offer the flip side of what posters like you and Hoosiers94 are posting... but I promise, I'm not enjoying the inconsistencies with this team and staff.
I agree we're getting screwed at home on the calls this year. I think for 2 reasons. First, we have a milk toast coach that the refs don't respect or fear. And 2, we're a shit team. Shit teams always get bad calls. For the opposite situation, look at the calls Wisconsin has gotten the last 15 years or so....
I picked IU to go 8-12 in conference but could see path to 10-10. Is that enough for the NCAA tourney. Eventually they need a signature win or 2. Their lack of having a center is huge. Alexis only played 10 minutes vs Nebraska. Bailey is forward. I think the coach is good but he can't expect to win much in this league with these holes in the paint defensively. I think players they have are fine and the pieces would fit great if they had bigs. If he came up short recruiting that is one thing but if this is his system then my opinion on him being good will turn out wrong. I am not buying Brucie Boy's hype. I doubt they survive Big 10 to make the NCAA tourney being so undermanned in the paint. CDD will have to replace 6 main rotation players so hope he gets it right next year and proves me wrong the rest of conference play.
What about the play of the team this year convinces you that he's a good coach?

Talent limited roster. We all agree. So, we really shouldn't be good at anything, right? Preseason expectations were to be a 40ish ranked team.
Torvik rankings: I use Torvik because he has a more extensive recency bias plus unlike kenpom it's free. All rankings are pace neutral and SOS weighted.
20th overall efficiency.
12th in adj offensive efficiency.

10th in EFG% defense.
14th in 2pt FG %
15th in 2pt FG def.
34th in 3pt % def.
Yeah, all the above are probably a bit overrated, but I take the above to be far more objective valid and representative of our play than what a bunch of disgruntled score watching basketball ignorant old men who don't "like" him believe. Some of you are no more objective or knowledgeable than teen age girls talking about pop music.
But y''all be you and keep bitching and moaning about shit you barely understand. It really makes you look knowledgeable and proves you're true fans. Plus everyone loves talking to chronic malcontents, what you feel is so interesting.
@sig Its something he has to overcome, for certain. But they're not the only good B10 team, or good team nationally, that plays without a traditional anchor big. Nebraska, as an example, doesn't have one. Iowa doesn't have one. Not having one, I think, does put a ceiling on how good we can be. But even without one, if the guys we have were even a little more consistent with how engaged they are defensively, and then how actively they force ball and player movement offensively... we'd only have 1 or 2 losses, and we'd be a top 20 team right now.
Ifs and buts... I get it... and having a true anchor big can make up for some of these lulls, to be sure. But just saying we have the horses to still be a really good team, without that physical big we're lacking. And all it would take is something we should have, with or without all the correct pieces on the roster... consistency in effort and focus.
You are WAY too generous. It is clear that this is an underachieving team, even given the poor roster construction. We have 0 good wins. Not Maryland, who is 6-11 so far. Not KSU, who is 9-7 overall and 0-3 in the B12. Not Maryland, who is terrible and did not have Payne when we played them. We have 3 atrocious give-up losses...Minnesota; Kentucky; Nebraska.
I see only two positives; the players are good people, who generally give good (not elite) effort on D.
Enright appears to be the only player on the team with a strong aversion to losing. The rest of the team folds like a wet tamale when pressed. The coaching staff is mediocre at best. Most disturbing to me is that the Coach's son, the so-called 'star' of the team, wouldn't know a good shot if it bit him on the ass.

ok tough guy. U keep on the righteous path. Just shut up and cheer right. And you know more than all of us combined im sure.

@scam-likely What is a "true fan". Fan is short for fanatic and being upset, angry, disappointed is all part of that. Not trying to be combative, but I hear a lot of "true fan" stuff and never had a definition of a true fan.

It was said sarcastically. Basketball is entertainment there's no requisite to be a fan. It's a silly notion at best.
@scam-likely Gotcha. I have heard other people on other forums and just wanted to know.
