I don’t understand why Woodson’s dismissal led to hurt feelings and bruised egos among donors. He was an objectively mediocre coach who never lost fewer than 12 games in a season while he was here. One would think donors would want to win but not every school has ambitious ones like Cody Campbell.
It’s a shame that two alums in Woodson and Buckner pulled the plug on the program.
Because alot of them only care about access and sitting around with Woodson drinking wine and smoking cigars. I mean yeah they like winning I am guessing but the old boys club was their real pull. And I am sure Woodson and Quinn did all they could to try and burn it down for good last spring and told them not to give anymore . At the end of the day their ego's is all they care about not the program. But congrats to them I think they did indeed succeed making sure the program is not even on life support anymore its just now totally irrelevant like they wanted it to be.

Probably because Woodson thought (and stated multiple times) that he was doing an outstanding job here and there should be 'no questions' about the job he's doing. He felt he was wrongly pushed out and him and QB almost certainly told their buddies the same thing. There were almost certainly some donors who are fringe BB fans at best that they were fleecing that wouldn't know if we were good or not. All of the old cronie network came out in support when Bigfoot told them to acting like he was doing amazing things as coach.
For years former players screamed about how we needed to hire an IU guy to restore the glory as if that was some magic cure. So ok you have to hire an IU guy which they demanded and least get one with a pulse who works hards and does not give 50% energy only. I mean alford at least would have given it his all and not spent half his time golfing and smoking cigars. He probably would have failed but at least give the effort and pretend you love IU.

I don't think any of the people calling for an IU guy to be hired ever thought in a million years they would hire Mike Woodson.

I agree. "Hire an IU guy" was code for "Hire Steve Alford."

One of the loudest voices was Joe Hillman so yes I assume he meant Alford. He failed to realize just how inept and incompetent the IU admins are or should I say he did not realize Quinn was making the choice. I remember people tried so hard to talk themselves into believing Woodson could work out but it was just gaslighting of themselves.
Tucker was passing on a bunch of good 3s. Gun shy? Or does he need way more time and space to get off his shot?
He seems to feel he needs to have three feet between himself and a screen to shoot. A ton of times against State we handed the ball off to him or a short toss to him and the defender would go under the screen and Id immediately be - SHOOT - because no way could the defender both get the rest of the way around and also get a hand high enough to get the ball. But hed do a confused little pump and stop if the defender cut him off, as if he thought the purpose of the screen was to free him for a drive. I guess he cant shoot right over the top of a guy if hes fairly close to him? Even when its our own guy! Was pissing me off. He does have sort of a slow raise up and release, but nowhere near that slow. He just was thinking slow, or was afraid.
@thenickeldimer - this team plays hard for as long as they can. Can’t go w 7 man rotation and keep effort up- need Harris and Drake back asap! This team has shown they can compete until they run out of gas.
we have a good coach- need more guys
I'm shocked by how bad Tucker is. He's just not good. That's a devastating development given the makeup of this team - and something that may have always been given he never had to play high major competition night in and night out (he didn't play the conference schedule last year at West Virginia).
While I'm not a big Tucker fan, he does do a lot besides scoring. The collapse last night occurred largely when he was benched with fouls. I think we've seen the same in other games.
Really not much good to say, right now. I guess with a little over 11 minutes to go, we were tied with MSU, at Breslin. But it didnt really feel like we were in it, even then. And then the downside of the effort and focus consistency issues hit, and….yeah.
Gotta get Saturdays game. Tonight was the first game I saw some “mail it in” type attitudes. That ain’t good if that continues.

Back when we were discussing DePaul's roster makeup of a season ago, you'd made an interesting point: we've gotten two mid-major conference players of the year as opposed to what DePaul getting mid-major players who had nice seasons for their respective teams. I think it's fair to wonder right now if even a mid-major conference player of the year can make a huge difference without being able to play off of high major talent/athleticism around him. Wilkerson has been good, but right now he's just the guy who's scoring the points for what, at this point in time, is an average team (in other words - someone has to score).
It's hard to tell. The roster is lacking, something we all knew but were hoping wouldn't rear its ugly head as much as it has already. I'm wondering if the money was really there amidst reports of some of the big boosters not being on board with the Woodson firing. Thinking back, the burners were pretty confident in us getting a lot of big names we were associated with. None came to fruition. Were they really there for the taking or did DeVries fumble them?
I'm struggling with whether DeVries had to put together this team on the run (and why) and had to take what he could get or if he (mistakenly) thought this was a legitimate roster. I don't think anybody here knows - and it's that uncertainty that's making me nervous for the future... the bane of merely being a fan...
No matter how much I know (knew) this would likely be a 17-14 (9-2, 8-12) season it's still hard to go through the ups and downs as it unfolds.
Where have you been the last month. I've been calling him out for weeks. Been taking it on the chin.:) He's slow , undisciplined and disinterested at times. He disappears for long stretches of every game. He's our guy? I don't think so. There are many ways to raise money for players. 3rd party consortiums take care of the payments after the 20.5 runs out. DD is inept. Either because of his door knob personality or his inability to judge talent. Either way he won't succeed here.

each year I teach my AAU team about the increase in the speed of the game and the increase in physicality. The speed of the game seems to be a major hindrance to his abilities.
we have a roster built to compete in mid major conferences. The sun belt , the mac, MVC. But not the big ten.
He's a great MVC player.
@gerdis I don't think he really wanted to coach here. He had to know Woody was either going to get fired or retire in a year or 2.
Remember on I think it was 60 minutes he said he loved being in Florida and riding his bike to work ? A year later he's in Michigan.

Yeah normally players adjust to the speed and physicality jump as freshmen. If this is his issue, unfortunately for him he's a senior and by the time he adjusts from Drake speed to MSU speed the season will be over and so will his eligibility.
I still dont believe dd was the best we could get. I think he was the best we could get at the price they wanted to spend. Pretty sure if they doubled it we would of had bigger names but it is what it is a a football school now
