Nice to get this win after looking forward to the next 7 games.  It would be nicer if IU blew Maryland out and stole one from Nebraska or MSU.

Need to beat teams like Nebraska and MS to get fan interest up. I see attendance was only like 12k so the balcony must have been totally empty.

@arioznahoosier4554 beat Maryland and Nebraska, and the crowd for the Michigan State game will be electric again.  Saturday's crowd, even if we beat Maryland this week, maybe similar to Washington...quite a lot will be hung over from the football game, and its a noon start.  But I would assume there will be a lot of students that come back in early for the football game, so we should have at least a small student section again for the Nebraska game.

If we beat both Maryland and Nebraska... I would think next Tuesday's Michigan State game would have the makings of one of those rocking Assembly Hall games we all love.  The excitement is pretty low, right now.  But I still think a 4-1 team in the B10, students back in town, should be pretty full, if not completely packed again.

If we lose both these next couple games...it'll still be a decent crowd against MSU...up there with the best we've had this year, but nothing like what it'll be if we win.

Beating Maryland will not move the needle at all they are flat out awful  and like you said many will be hung over from football Saturday. Nebraska says 11am so not ideal to get a big roaring crowd to show up if it was 7pm different story. That Michigan State game is on the road though so that will be a very tough win to get.

I think the Maryland game is more of a 'must win' to not lose more interest. The win itself isn't going to get anybody super excited, but a loss there and I think even more ppl will check out.

We have no road wins yet and that's one we just have to get at this point.

Yes a loss to Maryland would be pretty bad maybe even worse than the Minnesota loss.

@arioznahoosier4554 Dang you're right on the MSU game... I was looking at the schedule all morning too.  I'm an idiot.  So... Iowa on the 17th... we'd probably have to win our next four, which obviously isn't happening, for that to be one of those electric atmosphere games.  Probably have to look all the way ahead to Purdue for that.  No way to predict the excitement level that far out, but would think we'd need to be playing well, competed with MSU and/or Michigan well, beat Iowa probably, be around .500... for that game to be a true PU level atmosphere.  If we're sitting below .500, get thumped by both MSU and Michigan, lose to Iowa maybe...  the PU game will always be sold out, but the energy and excitement levels won't be what they should be.

The results of the game on Friday, likely will impact the mood and excitement level on Saturday, too.  A win is for sure better than a loss in this regard.  A loss on Friday, I gotta think, leads to a bad vibe and mood, and much less energy or GAF to get up and come to Assembly Hall before noon.  A win could have spirits about IU athletics in general really high, and "they" (students and Indianapolis area fans mainly)... they could ride the high through the IU bball game and provide a good crowd.

@arioznahoosier4554 Do we know if Payne will be back?  They're a completely different team when he's in the lineup.  Without him, IU "should" win the game.  If he's back, and anywhere near healthy, that changes that game dynamic a fair bit.  Not saying that means we should lose to them, but they for sure aren't 'flat out awful' when Payne is playing.

It definitely would be. After Minn. lost to PU they won 4 str8 including another B1G win over NW. This sits as a high Q2 loss at the moment and both KP and Torvik project Minn. to finish 8-12 in conference. So, at least on paper this loss doesn't appear as bad as it did when it happened.

Maryland would be a Q3 loss and they're sitting at like 160 in the NET now. Cannot lose this game.

I never in a million years would have paid attention to our football recruiting two years ago but now I am suddenly interested. I think that is where many are at right now as well.

@arioznahoosier4554 Oh I always have.  Obviously my posting activity on the football board is higher since Cig arrived.  But I've always very closely followed anything and everything IU football related.  But its pretty obvious to see the shift in attention on this board, and from the overall fanbase.  IU football is on fire.  IU basketball is in a lull.  I strongly suspect it won't take a Dusty May/Michigan type turnaround to snap some of the focus and attention, and excitement, back towards IU bball, especially after football season ends.  But the bball team does need to pick up some quality wins here soon, for sure.  There are a bazillion variables to consider...but in general, I think a pretty good, general, "need" is IU making the NCAA tournament this year.  That implies some good wins coming home.  And just being in the NCAA's again would be invigorating, and a tangible sign of improvement, for most.

If IU misses the NCAA's...it's going to be a loooonnngg offseason on here.
