I haven’t posted much over here much during the Woodson nightmare, thanks a lot Quinn.
There was so much doom and gloom over here after the DD hire but I didn’t comment I’ve been going to games for 50 years, went to many games with Chuck Crabb back when was also the cheerleader sponsor which was an added bonus for a 17 yr old kid.
DD will be by far the best coach we have had since Knight which isn’t saying much. The man built an entire competitive @ @roster in seven months.
Woodson had no clue how to recruit or make in game adjustments.
This is a Cig type hire,Dolson hit home runs on both these hires.Hell I’ll probably start watching games again this year, the last five years has been horrendous basketball.
I hope you're right. No way of knowing that, today. But he has proven that he can turn programs around quickly. And he is pretty widely regarded as being a very smart, and good, overall basketball coach. The people that follow West Virginia's program the most, as an example, gushed over him, and were genuinely disappointed they had lost him. And they've had guys like Beilein and Huggins in the last 10 years, both better coaches than any we've had since RMK.
Archie's struggles are what give me pause on just assuming he's going to win big, and do it quickly, at IU. Archie was a no brainer hire, at the time. And I don't think anyone could have predicted his struggles, based on what he had done prior to IU. He's the only apt comparison, in my opinion. None of the other IU coaches, since RMK, are remotely similar to CDD. But it sure seems obvious, at this point, that CDD's personality is better suited to the IU job, than Archie's was.

How does one become a cheerleader sponsor. Asking for a friend … 😬
After Sampson he's easily the best coach we've hired since Knight. That's not necessarily saying much given that the other 4 coaches were completely horrendous. I'm optimistic though.
I do ultimately think his success or failure will depend on how he does in comparison to May and McCollum who most of the fan base preferred. They won't care if we finish 3rd if UM and Iowa are the top 2 and once you lose the fans it is over here. That's gonna be his challenge imo.
@dbmhoosier I’m sure there will be those who will be hung up on what or how May and McCollum do. I, for one, won’t give two rat shits about them - for now. CDD has a couple of years to stamp his mark on this program, and I think he’ll do just fine.
@the-watson Ultimately, DRock... I don't think I'll ever bring myself to call him that... Coach DeVries is only one more syllable... anyway, he just needs to show that he can coach up his teams, win consistently, and play a style that's fun to follow. If he does those things, it won't really matter what the other coaches are doing. Obviously if either of them hang a Natty banner in the next few years, that'll be a tough one to swallow. But even then, not something that will effect our program a ton.
DRock isn't a great nickname I've got to say.

He'll be compared for sure. The fanbase is fickle though.
There were multiple posts and posters on the former board early last season who were bashing May saying we 'dodged a bullet'.
There were also countless threads of posters wanting absolutely nothing to do with McCollum's system and lack of high D1 experience.
Now, most of them won't admit it now and will act like they were all in on either of them VS DDV if things don't line up.
We'll also need to see a few years before any real judgements can be made.
Same thing with Archie who was bad, but we had all kinds of ppl saying we should have hired Holtmann instead and that they were doing so much better when he never did much of anything and was eventually fired as well.
