So if we had won the Maui tournament or some other preseason tournament, do you think cignetti would’ve kept the football team on the field while they honored the basketball team at halftime? I mean, after all, we are a basketball school, right?

I enjoy hypotheticals as much as the next person, but let's keep it at least somewhat realistic.

I personally don't give 2 shits whether or not they stay out there.  It's to recognize the football team. It's not apple to apples with Coach Knight returning to the place he coached.

The less slop that gets splashed on them, the better.

the less slop?  You worried it would damage the FB program if they get too close?

I think it would do them some good to see what it's like to be honored as a champion and the demeanor and moxy that goes with it. Cause they got none of that going on in hoops right now

I do feel bad for the players to some degree: 1. They're not responsible for the roster; 2. This is the first time another sport has overshadowed basketball at IU ... and overshadowed it by an Alabama margin; and 3. None of these players are conductors on the apathy train ... they're simply passengers.

Hyperbole not your thing?

What's being out there gonna do?  Get em fired up to go out there and win one for Cig?  Go do your thing like you always do and let the football team get their recognition.  If it was halftime of a football game and basketball team was being recognized for a natty, I wouldn't expect Cig to change the routine.

Edited because I can't spell and it's so bad spellcheck can't keep up.

@hoosiers94 I get it, but it's not gonna move the needle. Without a big ten level big on the floor, we're just pissing into the wind.

Perhaps I'm making something out of nothing, but I'd like to offer one final perspective...

I think we can all agree IU basketball has lost a lot of equity with fans in recent years. Of course that's not DK's fault; he walked into a buzzsaw. I think congratulating the team for, oh, five minutes before going to the locker room would be no small thing. I'm just one person, but that would make an impression on me.

@gthomas I really hope the AD, Purdue, TV decision makers... have enough foresight not to put CDD and the bball staff in that position.  In fact, if Dolson allows it to go down that way, it'll be another sign that maybe he's taken his eye off the importance of also having a good basketball program.

Sing the national anthem, then spend 5 minutes honoring the football team, then have starting lineups and play a normal game.  I'm sure whatever TV company is doing the game, would love to cover anything IU football related, right now.

@hoosiers94 He's alright.  He always secretly wanted to play at IU anyways.

well actually he did ... Davis was recruiting him and his teammate Scott Martin.  When Sampson came he stopped the recruitment of both so they went to Purdue.

@hoosiers94 For some reason I was thinking IU was already "out" for Hummel, Martin, and Johnson by the time Davis was fired, and then Sampson was hired?  Davis didn't prioritize them was the narrative I remember?  Seemed like there was similar sentiments to their recruitments, to how Davis fumbled or just didn't put the effort in to the Luke Harongody recruitment.

But yeah, I was only half joking on Hummel.  Its pretty well known when he was younger, and even in to HS, he wanted to play at IU.

somewhat .. Davis was back and forth with both of them.  So they began to cozy up with Painter.  The Sampson said he had no interest but I think by that time they had pretty much decided on Purdue.  My wife and I lived next door to Hummel at the time. They used to be IU fans :).
