I read above also he had some stellar resume. Except a short stint with us.
@openwheel Fife was open, while he was still an assistant at IU, about fact that he hated NIL and didn't think IU should do it. He was very not aligned with IU's plan or philosophy on that, which is pretty much every school's philosophy about NIL. Not sure he'd fit in anywhere.
@unclemark At my church I pastored in Illinois we had a guy who would be gone weeks at a time because he drove a bus. One of his kin folk said to me, "Bill drives that bus because he wants to stay away from Leslie".
While I regarded God as a tyrant I thought my sin a trifle; But when I knew Him to be my Father, then I mourned that I could ever have kicked against Him. When I thought God was hard, I found it easy to sin; but when I found God so kind, so good, so overflowing with compassion, I smote upon my breast to think that I could ever have rebelled against One who loved me so, and sought my good.” C. H. Spurgeon
So Dane is an assistant for 10 years under one of the great CBB coaches… then he comes to Indiana and in year one there are supposedly all these issues with him? That’s odd.
Few will ever know the exact facts, but I bet the problem was mostly Woody.
The fact that Matta didn't stick around very long either would support that bet. The two guys who were undoubtedly trying to educate Woodson on coaching the college game and both are gone pretty quickly.
We all witnessed the mess Woodson ran. That alone gives Fife high stature in my mind. Marta's actions support Dane.
@openwheel In a YouTube interview with Jim Coyle, Dane basically said he enjoyed the greater amount of time the business job allowed him to have with the family. Collegiate coaching apparently entailed more time and travel from family.
I'm no insider but from a personal observation Woodson came across as a stubborn old man who didn't desire help through either arrogance or a fear of others knowing more than he. I did love the man as a Hoosier basketball player.
