@tjinman1987 Yeah, with his shooting, pairing him with a primary ball handler, would seem to make the most sense. I thought one of the things that hurt Galloway's shooting, was having to handle running the offense more. Seems like a kid like Branham, you'd want to free him from that and use him as a secondary ball handler.
Has a nice shot and great handles.

Such a great get and early in the 27 cycle
@kkott He's a pretty good ballhandler, so he can handle some of those lead guard duties. But having another lead guard, or point guard, would probably be desired, to play alongside him. Really anyone else, he's good enough he doesn't really "need" a more traditional PG playing alongside him. But maybe ideally, a paint attacking guy, dawg defender, "Houston/Sampson" like PG alongside him would be great. But I think we'll see he's definitely NOT just a shooter.
@kkott another thing that hurt TG's shooting was his ability to shoot. Can't wait to see the new version of IU hoops.

Very impressive video, but he's no 'primary point guard'. No way, no how. Great shooter, great intangibles tho.
yeah I don't see him best suited to be a point guard . He could do it but it takes him out of the best part of his game and you're right he isn't the slasher type of PG. more methodical break you down slowly type of point guard
@hoosiers94 Game is changing. I watched him play PG in some pretty high level AAU games, for long stretches, this summer. He could handle it, if necessary. But hopefully they end up having other guys that compliment him well in the backcourt. Moody and him would be a pretty damn good, and versatile backcourt. Neither of them an actual pure PG, but both very good with the ball, willing passers, multiple level scorers. I love that we have this potential backcourt already inked. Now, go get some dawg PG and Wing defenders, and obviously some bigs.
I've watched him play a lot as well. In person. My son is 2 years younger. Play at some of the same tournaments
@hoosiers94 Then you saw him handle the ball, and run their AAU team, quite a lot then...no? One of the games I was watching, I was actually frustrated because he was being "too much" of a distributor, almost exclusively playing the point guard role. I was wanting to see what all the hoopla was about with his shooting and scoring... But especially late in games, when the intensity always ratchets up about 3 levels, they relied on him to help bring the ball up and initiate things quite a bit.
Not getting too excited, because its two years out.
But if Chase becomes a Hoosier, looks really good. I like this kind of complete, heady player with a great shot. Can win a lot of games in the league and tourney with a guy like this, with good pieces around him. Nice to be getting him!
Welcome Chase!
I've seen him play a game where he was looking pass first as a point yes. But the matchup seemed to call for it. I forgot who they played. I've seen couple of games where he was looking to score, finding his shots. Aggressive. But with poise and not in a hurry.
@hoosiers94 Yep, I think we're starting to see DeVries' "type": he wants multi-skilled guys who can shoot, handle the ball and pass. Will be an interesting year, as it seems he has a handful of those guys. I still think we're too light in the paint, especially in the B10, but an unselfish team with shooters that willingly shares the ball is dangerous.
1 thing helping our paint D this season is the on ball resistance the #1 & #2 Pg's are going to produce. We've been light there for some time although TG gave it all he had with little consistent assistance.
@hoosiers94 Same... to clarify... I do still want DeVries to get more ball handlers, and I do still believe in having an established, "true" PG. But I can want that, and still acknowledge that the game is changing, and its less necessary than it used to be. A backcourt of Branham and Moody, as an example, could win a lot of college basketball games these days...assuming they had good wings and bigs surrounding them.
