To be electric
IDK, football is really consuming most of the oxygen in the room right now. This is uncharted territory.
Tough for fans of a football school to get jazzed about a hoops game against Alabama A&M.
absolutely wild what Cig has done to IU. fans expect a winner
We'll have a game thread. I am excited for the season. Hell, there was a top-15 CBB game today and I didn't even notice until it was halftime.
@thehoosierhuddle UF v AZ? I watched a good bit, but just hard to get excited about matchups like this, this early. Great athletes abounded, but still very sloppy and somewhat uninspired play. Very different than watching UF last year, who I really enjoyed watching because of their intensity and D.
Now, Koa Peat was super impressive. Better enjoy watching him this year, if you want to see him in college. Stud.
@kkott Yeah. I got hammered for saying this on our Weekly chat, but that's where the sport is. The tournament is so big, that it really takes the luster off of these early season "Big" games. Also being on TNT doesn't help

Right. We've got a very good team in the sport that's 4-5x bigger than CBB. Our CBB team is rebuilding with a ceiling of winning maybe one tourney game? I'll watch most games, but it's just not that exciting this season. Assuming CDD is the guy, we won't be playing for much until year two or three.
But, don't get me wrong, if can win some of our bigger match-ups this year that's still fun and the fans will still be excited about that.
@tammany I think the average IU fan is still a bball fan at heart and will cheer for a team that is giving good effort and playing smart ball. As great as the support is for the fball team, our fanbase in general are still newbies and will have to learn how to be great fans. The bball program has had the luxury of having great fans and support, despite a product that many times hasn't been competing, and playing hard and smart. Bball fans have felt burned, so I think a winning fball program has been a welcome relief. I think reasonable success, coupled with great effort and smart play will win back most IU bball fans, although it might take until we are playing decent comp and don't have a fball team to cheer for for it to fully kick in.
But if the tournament isn't huge, how will everybody get a participation trophy?@kkott Yeah. I got hammered for saying this on our Weekly chat, but that's where the sport is. (I know we figured out how not to, but that will change.)
I liked it smaller, for that reason. Big games mattered more. And just getting in meant more.
Oh well, get off my lawn I guess.
@openwheel we better hope for 150 teams making it, maybe when can make it more than 25% of the time!
That's what stinks about the proposed 16 team football playoff, imo. Why should teams ranked 12 through 16 have any chance to play for a NC?But if the tournament isn't huge, how will everybody get a participation trophy?@kkott Yeah. Expanded playoffs in all sports college or pros are all about the casual fan.....

On Saturday I was watching one of the college pregame shows and they were asking questions of Dave Portnoy. (He must be an IU football fans of sorts). Anyway, one of the questions was "What do IU fans think of Purdue being the basketball school in the State and IU being the football school?" He handled it pretty well, plus damn, that one hit home.
I can tell you that most of my family are IU basketball & football fans and no one is talking basketball right now. I think CDD will be somewhat disappointed with the fan support they get this year unless they significantly surprise over the preseason projections.
Maybe the malaise will give him some time to get his feet under him. The Archie and Woody days, plus the changes to the college bball in general, have made it hard to get pumped for the new season. Plus pee ewe will be good again.
Last year we went to a couple games and sadly it was the first time I felt bored at Assembly Hall. Never thought that would happen.
@openwheel The NCAA seems incapable of doing what makes sense: Football: 16 team playoff. Basketball: 64 teams. Sports are rapidly approaching the law of diminishing return, and I think Disney's recent shenanigans with ESPN/ABC not being on Youtube TV and being offered as another subscription crosses that line for many. I know I loved Gameday, but over the last 2 weekends, I've adopted the Big Noon pregame and think the football discussion with Quinn, Leinert, Ingram and Meyer is superior.
