Some Ai crap in this but for the most part actual footage.  I guess Bird mentioned in his book that Benson’s treatment of him when he can to IU was one of the main reasons he left.  I’d never heard that.

yep this is pretty old news.  And Bird took it out out him later in the NBA, every chance he had.  I saw an old interview with RMK on the topic of Bird, and RMK admitted that he probably should have been more 'in tune' with Bird's needs during that short time at IU.  But overall I think it worked out pretty well for both RMK and Bird.

We had a long string going on the old site about all the hypothetical success IU bball might have seen in the late 70s (specifically the period between the two 'ships in 76 and 81)  if Bird had stayed.   Fun to play make believe.

In those days there wasn't much in the way of emotional support for college students. You were assumed to be men and women for the most part, and capable of solving your own problems. You didn't have counselors and safe spaces at every turn. Hazing of one form or another was very common in most clubs and sports.

@crazy-joe-devola How did it "work out pretty well for RMK"???

I mean, sure he recovered with the 81 team, but it was dry from 76 to then.

@tammany handful of injury related "what ifs" as well.  May and Henderson, namely.  Should have 7 banners in the Hall and 7 Stars on our players butts.  8 maybe if Ted Valentine weren't officiating the 92 Final Four.

All I'd ever heard was he left because he was "homesick," so this is interesting to see.

Have a book and Bird wrote a couple of pages, saying he wasn’t overwhelmed with size of IU, mentioned Ballentine hall could hold have his town and his roommate was solid middle class Jim Wiseman. Bird said he had like 3 shirts and 2 pairs of pants. Wiseman said he could borrow any of his clothes but bird didn’t want to keep doing that, so he left. That was before first actual practice but felt if he would have stayed, he could’ve worked it all out

@unclemark How exactly do I sub?  And she is doing well, shouldn't you know?

EDIT:  I just subscribed for a year, at least I think I did.  I don't notice a difference yet.
