It moves us ahead of them in the pecking order, so I'd suppose it's good.  Of course, we have to beat them now.

Why? Are you expecting the committee would hit IU really hard because they have one loss all season and its to Penn State?

Our playoff odds improved 10 percentage points from 43% to 53% after yesterday.  The PSU loss was likely most of that -- it was a good thing.

@yothn I’m all for being optimistic, but the smart money says we’re probably gonna have a loss before we play PSU, and they’ll probably have at least three.  It will be a must win and we won’t get their “UCLA effort”.

There is a shit ton of football to win before playing Penn State.

If we have a loss, and only one loss, it could still be a must win to make the CFP. If we have two losses, then it could be a huge opportunity to still get in by waxing them at home.

Long way to go with too many scenarios. We play other tough games before them, and not just Oregon.

This is fun though. Beat Oregon!

@jj_mcclure It's so hard to get a good team to take a "lesser" opponent seriously. Even Franklin was still cocky in his halftime interview. Cig does better than many but even he isn't perfect.

@ams66 Frankly, when it comes to IU I couldn’t name you a team either last season or this season that I feel they haven’t taken seriously.  When they’ve not met expectations or struggled, like against ODU or Iowa, it seems to be due to them being a pretty stout opponent, rather than lack of preparation or over-confidence.  Not sure what you’re seeing…

because they lost to a shitty 0-4 team. Of course that changes if ucla wins some more games but not likely they come even close to winning out

@lncolnpk Gotta think Locksley is done if MD has another meltdown in conference this year.  Giving up 24 unanswered to Washington doesn't inspire confidence.

Disagree.  Young team. Lots of contributing freshmen. And they don't have the money to go big game hunting in terms of a coach and staff. They keep Locks, they keep most or all of those talented freshmen and hope they develop into something better than he's produced so far.

We might get their 'we just got smoked by OSU 7 days ago, have 3 losses and no chance at the playoff' effort.

I would say Maryland showed with their first half against Washington, that they have enough talent to jump up and bite us. Maybe so do a one or two others not named Oregon or Penn State.

But that just means we have to take care of business. Nothing more.

With Maryland , as someone said being a young team they may be making fewer mistakes and be ready by then for a complete game against us at home. Still, TCB by the Hoosiers and we will be fine.

Pumped for this week, to see what we've got. We need a complete game. Could win it. What an atmosphere with the country tuning in to see... INDIANA .

@yothn No, I'm not worried about getting in with one loss, but if we have two losses, and they don't rebound into the top 25, I could see us getting left out for two loss Michigan or one of many SEC teams that will probably have two losses.

I fully expect Iowa to upset PSU at Kinnick and PSU is not beating OSU this year either; meaning they may have a lot less to play for by the time IU arrives.  I mean, will they even get enough fans to participate in a white out if they have lost 4 games by then?  Last year was a blast for IU but this year may finish up even better.  Having said that, IU needs Michigan to lay an egg or two because they basically have our schedule from last season.

@jj_mcclure May not have worded it very well but I think I was agreeing with you. You said "we won’t get their “UCLA effort”." and I took that to mean you thought #7 PSU was taking their game against 0-4 UCLA for granted, and we'd get a tougher game from them.

Before the ODU game Cig was talking about how they were a dangerous opponent, much more so than the mainstream media was, and I assume that was to send the message to his team that this wasn't a game where they could just expect to show up and win. Still, we got off to a shaky start.
