Cigs just getting his value right.  Relax folks, we won't know what Cig can command in the market yet.  Back-to-back CFPs.  We'll be backing up the Brinks truck as we should.  We got plenty of cash around the nation. Just got to stay current.  Go Hoosiers!

I think he'll want $12M a year plus a top 5 in the country NIL guarantee.  Provided we can pay him that I doubt he leaves.

I don’t know if IU can provide that at this point absent Mark Cuban turning into Cody Campbell. But can any school? Do Penn State and Florida have the resources?

I think his personal compensation is not a huge concern for him as long as he's treated fairly. I think his main money emphasis will always be coach's salaries and NIL/rev share $. For some insecure types, salary numbers are just a way to keep score. For a guy like Cig, there are more important things to consider, things that impact the program, not his personal pocketbook. Knight wasn't among the highest paid coaches even in his prime, but he did have the full backing of the department... until he didn't.

We can pay Cig and his staff as much as any school.  That is funded from the athletic dept and we have enough revenue.

NIL is a donor thing and we don’t have the donors to be top-5.  We are probably mid-20s in NIL rank right now.  Maybe getting to #15 or so is possible with another $7-10M.

@tammany I don't get the whole IU doesn't have the donors angle. IU has the largest or second largest living alumni base in the country and one of the top business schools in the country. The donor base is an untapped resource IMO. Cuban just made a large donation to IU. Money isn't an issue.

I’m just going off this article.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/the-race-to-keep-up-with-40-million-rosters-is-shaking-college-football/

Cig says: “I think our little pot of gold is pretty nice, but we're not at $40 million. Or $30 million. Or even $25 million."

The fact is many other schools have $10M+ more to spend on their rosters each year compared to us, and the top schools are close to $20M more.  We are improving our NIL fast, but the fact is our NIL isn’t close to top-5 and money is to some extent an issue with respect to who we can recruit.  I’d say only a few schools like OSU, Texas, Oregon, TTU, etc can say money isn’t an issue.

I don’t think this is a big deal, because we are improving on the NIL front and getting amazing results with what we have.  But technically we are still a smaller program at the moment.  That’s all I’m saying for anyone who finds this stuff interesting.

Just remember that Cig holds all the cards in this negotiation.  Put yourself in his shoes.  What would you demand? And you're not an IU alum or grew up an IU fan and have no ties to the state or university.  We can definitely keep him but it's gonna cost a lot.

Any AD whose program has an opening should be fired if he (or she) doesn't at least contact Cignetti. Florida. Florida State. Penn State. Whoever else. He'll be getting many calls.

All that said, I think the guy wants to build the Hoosiers into a juggernaut. If you have a chance to become the Bob Knight of football at IU, you take it.

Cig ain't going anywhere.

@thehoosierhuddle Penn State will find the money. Franklin has lost the locker room, so he's gone ... regardless of buyout. The situation has become untenable.

Scott needs to give Cignetti and his staff a raise now. Call every millionaire donor and beg for NIL donations.

Amazing how quickly things can change.  2 weeks ago he had a top 5 team and was considered an almost lock for the playoffs and a NT contender.  Still, getting paid $50M to not come to work is a pretty sweet gig.  Wish I could find one.

I don’t know if I could stomach having to play against Cig. I hope Cuban writes him a blank check. We need to at least up our staff salaries. We need to be top 5 in the country in staff compensation with these kinds of results.

Yep, our staff has earned another round of new raises and contracts.  Well deserved.
