BYU over Texas Tech: could lead to Notre Dame missing out, with the Big 12 becoming a 2 bid conference
James Madison over Troy- 1 loss team, stronger case to get in
North Texas over Tulane- 1 loss team, stronger case to get in. Plus UNT has a fun offense and QB to watch.
Georgia vs. Alabama: tough call. An Alabama loss might knock them out, but an Alabama win might knock ND out, especially if paired with a BYU win. Still, got to root for an Alabama loss, due to the obnoxiousness of their super-entitled fan base. A Georgia convincing win could have them leapfrog IU, and for sure if IU loses, but I'm not convinced that #3 or even #4 is a worse path than #2.
Virginia vs. Duke: tough call. Duke wins and the ACC would likely get no representative. This would help JMU or the UNT/Tulane winner. Virginia wins and it expands the possibility of ND getting left out, which would be wonderful. So I'm leaning Virginia.
thoughts? disagreements?

Notre Dame very likely in regardless of this weekend’s results. They’re playing very well at the right time of the year and it would leave the committee open to a ton of legitimate second guessing if they were to omit them.

At #10 they have the last slot, since #11 and #12 would go to Virginia (assuming they win) and to a Group of 5 champion.
But if BYU beats Texas Tech, somebody has to get left out. It would be Alabama, if they lose, but if Alabama beats Georgia I can really see ND getting left out. It would likely be better for TV ratings to have them in, but hopefully that isn't a factor.
I want Alabama or Notre Dame to be left home. Not exactly sure why. Maybe it's their fans & their entitlement attitude.

@jackskip23 - I don't think they would drop Bama behind a team who is idle tomorrow.....because they played an extra game (conference title). There will be shifting of the teams within the playoffs (who play) and shifting of teams looking to play their way into the playoffs, but I don't see Bama losing then allowing Notre Dame or some team on a bye to pass them up. That would eliminate the remaining value of SEC and B1G holding conf championships and the committee said they want to protect the value of those games.
If BYU wins, that will eliminate ND. If BYU loses, there's a chance the committee considers the ND vs Miami dynamic even closer and that could be another reason ND falls out.

As much as possible, I want the 12 best teams in the CFP, and ND and Alabama are clearly 2 of those 12. I know there are protocols that could inhibit that, but it seems unlikely.
Notre Dame very likely in regardless of this weekend’s results
Notre Dame is out of BYU wins, there aren’t enough at large spots.
I would rather play BYU than Notre Dame, so I am rooting for BYU tomorrow
Doesnt matter much. The committee will find a way to give us absolutely the toughest draw whether we win tomorrow or not.
I think Miami is in and Virginia and Duke are out regardless.
If Bama loses, Texas may be out. SEC gets 5 I think. If Bama wins, Texas may get in.
Texas Tech needs to beat BYU. One bid Big12.
UNT vs Tulane, winner is in as long as they look good. They both won games out of conference beating UF and NW respectively. I think that conference should get a bid and they will.
JMU is out.
ND has very little room for discussion, but they probably get in anyway. Hooray, you beat USC!
SEC=5, B1G=3, B12=1, ACC=1, North Tex., ND
For me, that final spot is ND vs Texas. Unless Virginia or BYU win about 45-0 I dont think they stand a chance. I think 1-loss North Texas has a really good chance as a conference champ. Even Tulane, though Texas will get in ahead of Tulane probably.
I'm rooting for anything that sends ND to the Duke's Mayo Bowl.
I think Miami is in and Virginia and Duke are out regardless
That’s not possible
if Virginia wins they are in, if they lose no ACC team is in and JMU is in
the only real question mark at this point is if BYU wins or not. If BYU wins they are in, if they lose ND is in

The Big12 should get 1 bid. Texas Tech has been more impressive and they already beat BYU, but that game matters. Loser should play JMU in a bowl.

Whats not possible? Letting ND in with losses to Miami and Texas A&M, or putting Miami over a weak Virginia who only has wins over Cal and Louisville on their resume?
Miami will get in ahead of ND if the committee is as smart as they were last year.

There are auto qualifying bids, which Miami and ND do not qualify for. Virginia gets a AQ if they win today, which will jump them into the top 12. Tulane will also get a AQ
Notre Dame / Miami would need to finish top 10 to make the playoffs. If BYU wins, they are pushing Notre Dame out

I thought it was top 5 conference champs?
I thought it was top 5 conference champs?
It is, Miami and Notre Dame aren’t playing for a conference championship and there will be 2 AQ bids who are currently ranked outside the top 12
