Let the students choose something. If nothing else do flag and William Tell until we figure it out. Also can we please ditch Wipe Out? We’ve been doing it since the 70’s.

While it's possible Wipeout was done in the 70's ( I don't know) it hasn't been done continuously because Woodley started doing it about 20 years ago.
We tried a few 3rd quarter songs under Allen that flopped because we were bad that should be tried again, but won't be. The refrain from Jack & Diane is the answer, but when we played it previously, it flopped bc we sucked.
I think the best thing to do is to try a few songs earlier in the game that might elicit some engagement and then see if there's anything popular enough to anchor before the 4th quarter.
I had to attend a funeral Saturday and missed...what did they do? COuldn't have been worse than Who Let the Dogs out?
@gros-louis the refrain from Jack and Diane flopped because it isn't upbeat. I was there. It wasn't fun.
Life goes on long after the thrill of living is gone....he'll yeah, let's go win a football game. (Not)
Hurts So Good would be the best Mellencamp song to sing.

To me, it's not as much about the lyrics as it is about everyone knowing the words and singing along. And everyone knows those words and it's an homage to our boy Mellencamp.
Maybe Pink Houses would be better, but it's not as easy for everyone, IMO
Last week they played several things, and then closed with Paradise City, which I liked, but they didn’t let it play very long. People around us were singing along at the very least. They need to let whatever it is breathe. If people don’t know it’s coming they aren’t going to instantly attach to it.

I guess I heard that as TV came back from break and I thought to myself 'Oh God, I hope that fails" LOL I hate that song.
I don't know the answer, but I'd think it has to be something the students like since they bring the bulk of the energy. I'm kinda surprised the DJ guy hasn't figured something out that works.
@gros-louis rumor is Paradise City was written about Bloomington.
I personally like the Joker and the Thief by Wolfmother.
There are probably 100 options better than Paradise City, and 1000 better than Jack and Diane.
I think we should request original submissions, and offer 50k to the winner and buy the rights so no one can steal it.
Kickstart My Heart.
Or Dr Feelgood.
For Old Dominion game I didn’t notice anything in particular they tried.
They tried We Will Rock You last year. Which is so dated to me in an “elementary school basketball” way.
similarly, Mellencamp appeals to us olds but isn’t gonna be a stadium anthem with the utes.
The DJ needs to spend a night at a dueling piano bar and take note of the songs that the whole place sings along to. Then curate the list, tweak, and see what sticks.
I could live with Paradise City. Singable, good energy.
Kickstart my heart would be good if all we needed was a chorus, but the verses are rapid fire gobbledygook. Dr. Feelgood is about a drug dealer, or at least drugs. Prolly not family friendly enough. And IU already plays both at one point or another during the game, and they don't make people go nuts.
It's not an easy task.
They did Kickstart My Heart to a Highlight package, which is fine. They need to fix the sound system too.
