Some compliments that usually have the feel of being backhanded compliments.
Maybe just my perception. i don't see a lot of love lost even while Cig repeats that he learned more in a year under Saban than anywhere.
Google tells me Saban picked us to beat Oregon in the Peach. I had heard differently. He has picked against us quite a few games though. How's that working out for you Nick?
,
Saban has been extremely complimentary of Cignetti and of IU. Plenty of really good football people picked Miami, which is understandable since they’re really good, they were on a big roll in the playoffs, and they were playing at home. Great game between two great teams that literally turned on a handful of plays. Not sure how it sounded on tv, but it was so loud that talking to people next to you was a challenge.
Yes, when he was finally forced to admit it.Saban has been extremely complimentary of Cignetti and of IU.
...
I'm not saying he's been very negative or something, or dissed us. But, just saying. Has at times especially earlier in Cig's tenure looked like somebody peed in his cornflakes when he made a somewhat complimentary comment. When they are together on the sets it seems cordial between them but not beyond that. And maybe that is OK .
Obviously, we disagree, and have our own interpretations of what he thinks. That's fine, makes the world go round.
Hasn't Beck been playing college ball since the Obama administration? Those are hilarious!
I heard yesterday on a major network a commentator pregame that our team is experienced, "Average age is 23, 24, 25 years old. If I remember right".
So STUPID. We kept getting older and older. Pick up some random idiot's post and keep repeating it while making it even dumber. And nobody on the networks were calling it out.
Saban didn't pick Indiana for multiple reasons IMO, and it probably had more to do with optics than anything. He couldn't pick Indiana over Bama because his office is next door to Deboer's. And I don't think he could pick the team that beat Bama. He's part of the old guard that couldn't see a bunch of 3-stars beating the 4 and 5-stars. If he did he would've recruited them. Also, it seamed like he was always about to pick Indiana, and then did the opposite. It probably didn't hurt that Saban as likely closer to Cristobal.

The far more likely reason is he thought the teams he picked were going to win rather than optics or office locations or anything else. He just thought they were better, and it’s hard to argue against his logic. I’m glad he was wrong last night, but all of the twisty turny stuff doesn’t make any sense given his expertise as a football coach.

Beck threw a bad ball at the end, but I thought he played pretty well last night based on what we did defensively (not bring a ton of pressure). Having a really good running game helped him a ton, as did having the best player on the field to throw the ball to.
@jackskip23 not sure what you are watching. Starting to believe you aren’t who you say you are. Saban wouldn’t promote Cig. Hes railed against IU for two years.

Dumb and not true. Saban is a great coach and knows football inside and out. Not Saban’s job to promote Cig any more than it is / was to promote Kirby, Kiffin, Sarkesian or anyone else who came through there. Strange that people got offended by Herbstreit last year and Saban this year. Football guys giving football views. Why is that so threatening?
Saban looks bad as the one guy he didn’t promote at Bama went 16-0 when Cig took his own path.
Good on you. Now explain what your problem actually is.Tough day for the permanent crybabies like @iugradman. They're miserable.
Yeah, I’m from Bloomington and graduated from IU. I am so miserable.

I know I'm going to regret engaging with you, but here goes:
If Saban thought Alabama was better than IU, then it's very easy to argue with his logic. The scoreboard offered a pretty compelling argument against his logic.
Saban didn't even offer a logical explanation. He said he was picking Alabama because they "finally looked like themselves" against Oklahoma. He completely ignored the fact that IU had already beaten two teams that were obviously better than Alabama. He just assumed that, Alabama being Alabama was all it would really take to beat Indiana. Quite illogical, in fact.
Thankfully, the IU players begged to differ.

As a rule, I’ll usually give much greater credibility to the Hall of Fame coach who’s win multiple national championships. It doesn’t make them infallible, but they’re typically quite well informed. I talked to a couple of IU fans today who were focused on what Saban, Finebaum, Wilbon, Kornhizer, Herbstreit, Howard et al had to say today (with the hope that they’d feel humiliated) rather than simply basking in the reality that we won the National Championship. They’re still whining about the perceived indignity suffered because some of them occasionally picked against us. It’s really thin skinned but pretty funny.

lol. Making an observation about tendencies of a tv personality = being threatened? Got it.🤣

Almost as funny as an IU fan being thin skinned about people picking on these tv folks…😉
