We have a bye week so let’s look ahead to 2026.
What will we need out of the portal? See anyone you like that you’d love to have?
I’ll give you three names I’d love to see in Bloomington next year.
LB Mason Posa (Wisconsin)
QB LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina)
WR Nick Marsh (Michigan State)
Posa and Marsh would be great.
Would NOT spend the likely high price tag that Sellers would be going for. I think he got hot for a few weeks last year. That stretch, and him being the SEC is skewing his value. He’s very overrated.

I'd love to see what he can do with some real coaching.
I think we are locked in with Alberto as our starting QB. So, if we get one from the portal it will be someone willing to come to be Alberto’s backup. It has to be someone who is a current starter. So, I think it will be someone from the G5 ranks. I don’t think Sellers is going anywhere to be a backup, and Alberto isn’t staying if we bring in a starter. Nick Marsh is a definite yes. We really need OL/DL guys badly. Whoever is the best ones to portal. I don’t have a wish list right now.
Leavitt from ASU

If Cig thinks Alberto is ready, who am I to question that? My guess is he knows right now whether he is or isn’t.
@lncolnpk He would be coming off injury, and would be expensive
I would like these guys, OL we should have Evans and Lynch back, our depth should be fine with number of guys being 3 years in the program at that point too. We will need a center badly though in the portal.
QB: Colton Joseph (ODU)
RB: Caleb Hawkins (North Texas), only a freshman. Highly productive and plays really fast.
WR: Nick Marsh (MSU)
TE: Dorian Thomas (New Mexico), also wouldnt mind Brody Foley coming back who has had a nice season for Tulsa
Edit: just looked at Hawkins' stats, Ive seem him play a few games but didnt realize he was this much of a stud. 4 200+ yard games, 19 touchdowns on the season. True freshman. Only 173 touches, so he isnt worn down.
@kelly_32 I think Alberto is as ready as anyone who hasn’t ever started a game at this level. As I stated in another thread I expect to see some growing pains, but I think he is ready and by the end of next season could be as polished if not more so than Fernando. It also doesn’t hurt to hear Fernando say his brother often outperforms him in practice and I know Fernando is a very humble dude that likes to hype up and give credit to his teammates and especially his brother. It is still nice to hear though.

Side note: we open with North Texas next year
At a very high level, if that Cal QB with the crazy long last name made the call to Cig to potentially transfer, a thorough evaluation would need to be had.
@hoosierdaddy I like Colton’s athleticism, but his accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. I watched the Troy game and he really struggled imo. He was 50% in that game and is 60% on the season. I know a lot of people are high on him because of his big runs, but I’m a little more hesitant. I don’t know who we could pull as a current starter to come here in a reserve role. So, if he’s Cig choice I’d support it. I have confidence in whoever they decide on at QB. They’ve hit too many home runs for me to question their decisions at that position.
@middawg The Cal QB isnt transferring, he already put out a statement. For whatever reason he really wants to be there. Not the best decision if he wants to play NFL
We will get a couple RBs and I'd bet at least 3 receivers.
Safety will also be a place of need along the lines.
It'll be a fairly large portal class, again.

I'd take three more Coogan’s.
@kelly_32 We're going to have to hit the portal at just about ever position group. Not counting the seniors and Mendoza, we could also lose Ponds and Cooper along with an outside shot of Carter Smith to the draft.
