@cigten I may be a bit bullish, but yes.  Short of beating UI, PSU, or UO, Coach Cig has to prove last year wasn't a fluke.  Tom Allen didn't.  Maybe my expectations are higher having lived in Alabama for the last 20 years. 8 and a bowl win may do it, but I'm typing this post so maybe I'm there.

How many 8 win seasons do we have in our entire history?

I am going to double check my numbers, but

IU has 27 seasons with 6+ wins

They have 9 seasons with 8+ wins

1905, 1945, 1967, 1979, 1987, 1988, 1993, 2019, 2024

Yeah, so if we fail our way to another 8 win season this year, I think I'll feel like it could have been better, but it wouldn't be viewed as a failure of any sort.

Of course we want more, but 8 wins is not bad… at all.

Year 1 of this staff probably created some unreasonable expectations of what’s good and bad.

This staff has had one full season, one high school class they recruited (before the 2024 season…) join, and two years of portal recruiting.  Still early stages of building a stable roster with most players having been in the system for multiple years.

@gros-louis That's what I have been saying too. Yes, 8-4 would feel a little like a let down, but in no terms is it a failure. You'll get a good bowl and a chance to win it and get a 9th win.

Agreed.  Although, I would feel comfortable if there was another low-mid P4 on the schedule.  ISU and Old Dom aren't exactly great for the SoS.

@auburnhoosier SoS is a flawed metrics. At the beginning of the season last year every expert said IU's schedule was "too difficult" to make a bowl...Also SoS is based off of flawed Preseason polls.

I think it is smart the way IU schedules, but there are some draw backs (attendance, SoS). However, ODU is not a bad football team. We can hope they go into Va Tech and win Saturday

@thehoosierhuddle I agree that SOS is flawed by where teams start in the preseason. That is why the SEC pushes so hard to have 10 or 11 teams ranked. Any team playing in that league gets lots of points based on it.

Eating crow never tasted so good.  lol

I think the Illinois blowout really put the world on notice that you (myself included) may want to raise your expectations.   Here's to competing in the CFP year in year out.

Do we get credit for two 8 win seasons? 🤣

I think we can be satisfied that we are no fluke now.
